BSF, Pak Rangers exchange sweets on Eid
ATTARI: Exchange of sweets and pleasantries between officials of Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers on the occasion of Eid at Attari international border has not gone down well with many especially in the wake of recent killing of 5 Indian soldiers by Pak army and ****** elements.
And for the first time BSF prevented media personals from covering the event presumably to avoid any embarrassment in case of media queries.
As the media personals reached Attari on Friday morning they were not allowed to go beyond Customs Gate. They were also not allowed to enter the Integrated Check Post after they sought interviewing Pakistani passengers arriving India on board Lahore Delhi bus.
BSF and Pakistan Rangers often exchange sweets on occasions like Eid, Diwali, Holi, Independence Day, and Republic Day as a goodwill gesture between two border guarding forces. To pacify the angry media personal. a senior BSF official sent an SMS informing that sweets had been exchanged and they would mail the photographs of the event.
A tourist from Dharamsala who was accompanied with a group of South Korean tourists at Attari border was resentful of India giving or accepting sweets from Pakistan. "I just came to know that officials of both forces are exchanging sweets on Eid, it is not acceptable, they are killing our jawans and instead of retaliating we are exchanging sweets". He said that sweets could be exchanged later but first thing was to resolve the issues and answer Pakistan in its own language.
BSF deputy inspector general MS Farooqui said there wasn't any pre plan to exchange sweets but it just happened on Friday. However, he couldn't satisfactorily reply as to why media personal were prevented from covering the event.
Sources seeking anonymity informed that in the wake of inflamed sentiments of people in India following the killing of 5 soldiers by Pakistan army, BSF wanted to keep the event a low key affair to avoid any kind of controversy or criticism.
