BSF objection halts work of embankment

PANCHAGARH, May 3 (UNB): Work on embankment for protection from erosion of the bank of border river Karotoa was halted today as Indian border security force (BSF) raised objection with threat of gunfire.

Water Development Board that engaged contractors to set CC blocks on the bank of the river for protection from erosion along Mainaguri-Bodapara border area. Workers abandoned the work at about 3:00 pm in the face of BSF objection, said executive engineer Nawshad Ali.

He said that a large area on the river bank was vulnerable to erosion during the ensuing monsoon when char is rising on the Indian side of the river bank. Stoppage of work will also cause heavy financial loss.

Local BDR commander Lt Col Sirajul Haq said that they were aware of the BSF objection.

I did not know you care about what BSF says lol. There are always two sides to the same coin. Who knows.

BSF always objects when our side starts building a levy on a border river to protect our land and property. When there are river erosions in our side, the Indian side of the same river deposits silts. The land-short India then claims our land as their own by moving the border at the new center line.

Very good Indian technic to grab others' land, isn't it? We are fortunate that the border mountains also do not move in a similar way.

^ Land short? India has a lesser population density compared to Bangladesh

Something like 300/sqkm compared to 1000+/sqkm IIRC

Indians always wondered why BDR objects to their fence building....now I wonder why BSF is objecting? :undecided:

How seriously Bangladeshis take these issues/offenses?

Or should we consider these type of acts by India seriously?

I think these are now very normal and regular illegal acts by India against which we can't say anything as a weak country, so called Tiger!

Tiger is our population, but not the present politicians. Political tigers are no longer in BD land after the death of Sher-e-Bangal, Suhrawardy, Khwaja Nazimuddin, Sk. Mujib, Maulana Bhashani, General Osmani and Ziaur Rahman. Now, our ball-less nation is led by two ball-less human being. What can we expect out of them?

Let us not jump to any conclusion. Neither I say BSF is right nor do I say article is right in blaming.

There are certain protocols the Governements of 2 nations have to go through for carrying out activities related to borders or common interest areas.

Even if it is done, it also might take some time for the instructions to come down to the operational level.

The same happened with some activities in Indo-China border in northern areas where China stooped some actvities.

So let us leave this issue to the Govt of both countries to solve and not create hype and hatred out of it.

There are good mechanisms in place to sort these issues out. Have faith on the system, though there might be loopholes in any mechanism but those are natural. Constant refinement with time and relationship index goes on.

Whats the fuss about ?

BD or for that matter any other nation would not stop work based on the objection of border troops of another nation unless there is some reason.

The fact that work has stopped means that the objections raised were possibly correct, why else would anyone do so ?

Your nation is doing good. There is acknowledgement all around. Do not underestimate.

No governement is perfect and nation development is not an overnight job.

The way the economy is being opened up and the governance getting aligned to the world view, the outlook is positive.

If this can be continued for next 20-25 years BD will be leading the South Asia pack.

Srilanka is my best bet though to take this slot.
