British Prime Minister David Cameron / Photo: ReutersPraising India's initiative to become a global manufacturing hub, British Prime Minister David Cameron has offered assistance to India to help develop its "own world class fighter aircraft" which is "better than Rafale".

Cameron said Britain is ready to help India's state-owned Hindustan Aeronautical Limited to develop world class fighter jets.

"The British offer of Eurofighter Typhoon to India is still on table," Cameron said. "It will come along with technological and engineering assistance for India to develop its own world class fighter aircraft. It will be a better deal than Rafale," IANS quoted the British prime minister as saying in an exclusive interview to London-based Asian Lite newspaper.

Cameron was commenting on India's decision to buy Rafale fighters from France over the Eurofighter Typhoon of European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS).

During a recent official visit to France, Modi agreed to buy 36 Rafale fighter aircraft off the shelf. This was part of a $24 billion defence deal for 126 aircraft aiming to replace outdated Russian-built MiG aircraft with modern Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA).

But the deal is under cloud as France is reportedly hesitant to share the technology to build the remaining lot of Rafale in India.

"India is going to play a very big role in the success of British economy," Cameron said.

"Trade and investment relations have improved in the last five years and we need more political cooperation on climate change and other issue," he added. "I am looking towards to meet Prime MinisterNarendra Modito discuss a heavy agenda."

Just a statement
nothing else :coffee: British desperately want to develop weapon market in India

. .
And he offers to help india to develop his own jet right?
Firstly India is not in position of developing a new air craft of its own of 4.5th Generation level. India have Tejas and FGFA projects to be worked upon.
Secondly British will not help Indians for developing any air craft as long as India will not buy Typhoons.
If (least possibility) India even seek help from British to develop any new air frame, first condition will be purchase of Typhoons :-)

Thats the obvious thing. Also mentioned in the article.

Not necessary they want JV like Brahmos in which they can held majority share & develop the plane which would more profitable than EF Typhoon. They already do in USA then why not in India but chances are slim as we rejected Saab proposal in that kind of deal where foreign company hold majority share.

This is mostly aimed at the UK domestic audience as he is locked into a bitter and close election campaign at the moment. And if India is going to look to foreign partners for assistance with future projects the UK is not going to be considered, it no longer makes its own planes just sub-systems (which are world class no doubt). The French would be far,FAR better partners for this than the British.

.
So which is truly better? Rafale or Typhoon?

.
The French would be far,FAR better partners for this than the British.

Would be, but they are obviously not interested in real partnerships with India and want to keep us as an export customer, especially Dassault!
The Brits on the other side, have offered a partnership in the EF consortium and for future developments from the start and if we would had played it smarter, we could had teamed up with them for the Mantis drone, which now is a BAE / Dassault JV. The Germans had offered us to team up for the HOSBO stand off weapon, which also is part of the EF, not to forget the EJ 200 offer with 3D TVC and Chobham developing the nose and refuelling probe for LCA, while BEL also has a JV with Italian Electronica for similar RWRs which possibly going to be used in the EF too. So we do see the will to team up with India from the EF partners, but then again that doesn't really matter now with the mess the PM created.
What I don't get is, IF he decides on his own to change the deal and he is visiting not only France, but Germany too, why on earth is he asking only the French government for 36 fighters in a G2G deal??? He could simply had asked for a counter offer from the EF partner countries, not only to see what we could get from them, but also to have leverage on the French / Dassault. Even if he doesn't really consider the EF, just publically asking for an offer, would had increased the pressure on Dassault, which is what the DM tried since he is in office.

So forget about partnerships, since we now are even more going to be an export customer if we take Rafales just off the shelf.
