BRICS to establish liberal visa regime - The Hindu

The BRICS nations will soon allow free movement of “skilled professionals” among members by setting up a liberalised visa regime, Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju told The Hindu.

He said the liberalised visa regime would further improve ties with China. It was in May this year, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, that Chinese tourists were extended the facility of electronic visa on arrival, against the concerns of intelligence agencies.

Mr. Rijiju, who attended the first-ever ministerial meeting on migration held in Sochi, Russia, said: “The member countries have signed a joint declaration so that skilled professionals are allowed to travel with ease. This will boost economy and we will get rich human resource knowledge, too.”

The BRICS countries — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa — have joined hands to combat and prevent organised human trafficking and migrant smuggling.

Yay!!!
Me going to Brazeeel! <3

Good decision!
Easing the visa rules for skilled professionals is a good news for a country like India which has a gamoot of skilled professionals. Though I wonder how would this effect the tourism industry?

.
First time hearing about this news, how soon would this come into effect?

More careful planning must be done before executing this "Skilled Professionals" scheme in order to protect job market of countries with higher wage levels, since salary disparity is quite large.

This is not a very positive development. Recent joint China India military games, border treaty setup and this new visa easing between them. What next?

Pakistan should also be made member of BRICS or else must protest this development.

Yes, the protest of an outsider economic minnow must shatter the morale of BRICS.

Pray tell me, India has more influence or Pakistan on China? Our protests will be heard loud and clear. After all, we have the CPEC which gives us leverage with China.

What about issuing a nuclear warning?

Try atleast once in your life not to troll. Now listen, CPEC is beneficial to Pakistan but more beneficial to China. That can be easily used to change Chinese policies slightly in our favour. Now you understand?

Post to thank ratio'
Yours : 0.57 + 2 negative rating as well.
Mine : 0.84 + 0 negative rating.

Guess who is a troll.

CPEC if ever materialized will benefit Pakistan more and China has nothing to loose in case CPEC failed Pakistan is the sole loser in this case.
Now tell me how Pakistan can influence China's decision making?

Agree. Specific on this visa scheme, if any is implemented (after addressing fair concerns of job market protection, see my post #3), same should be applied to Pakistan, say a BRICS+1 arrangement.

Well China can allow Pakistanis visa free entry into China in that case. But Why would BRIS(all member of BRICS except China) allow Pakistanis visa free entry into their countries?

I'm not sure that can be implemented in near future, or until Pakistan change its attitude toward india .Also Pakistan refuses to trade with india how would liberal visa regime will be helpful.

As per me, it would be more beneficial for pakistan to focused on bilateral visa regime with each country in BRICS if they want same.

This is what I am talking about, if BRICS+1 doesn't work then China might as well have bilateral visa deal with Pakistan.

What worries me is job market, since China has highest salary levels (as well as GDP per capita) here. South Africa is far away, Russia & Brazil both have quite high salary level, Pakistan is a close integrated ally country, not much of concern. The only concern is India, it is close, far lower salary levels, depreciating currency, hence I think such visa scheme should be treated with great caution.

Pakistan has zero legitimate claim to join the BRICS grouping other than "because India is in it". BRICS, at the time, was a term coined to describe the world's most promising emerging markets(not necessarily the case anymore but that is not relevant). By no measure is Pakistan in a position to claim it is such an economic powerhouse of the future.

No one is going to allow Pakistan into BRICS, such a suggestion would be laughed out of the room and even China won't allow it. With Pakistan in BRICS all you would see is yet another multilateral organisation ruined/suppered by Pakistan's antagonistic policy towards India.

India is elevating itself above this petty nonsense and pursuing economic development- change your approach and you can join India but don't demand parity when you have no legitimate right to do so. There are dozens of more worthy candidates for a BRICS+1 inclusion than Pakistan.
