China is so far far ahead of the stone age backwards US, the gap is not even funny anymore, it seems that China will be the first country to achieve the next age of civilization.

The most recent news is, China telecom, the largest phone service provider, now provide commercial phone service utilizing quantum communication technology, Huawei's Mate 40 will be among the first batch of phones to support this service.

According to the news, to support this service, you only need to replace your SIM card with this quantum card in a supported mobile phone.

More importantly, according to the news, China's domestic quantum communication market reached 5 billion USD by 2019 o_O(for military and customers from government etc), and will be reach 10 billion USD by 2023.

I highly doubt there is anything quantum in that SIM card. That quantum cryptography may well turn to be a kwantung cryptography for all intents, and purposes.

It's seems to more likely to be server to server encryption, rather than a phone to phone encryption.

Today, sensitive data is typically encrypted and then sent across fiber-optic cables and other channels together with the digital “keys” needed to decode the information. The data and the keys are sent as classical bits—a stream of electrical or optical pulses representing 1s and 0s. And that makes them vulnerable. Smart hackers can read and copy bits in transit without leaving a trace.

Quantum communication takes advantage of the laws of quantum physics to protect data. These laws allow particles—typically photons of light for transmitting data along optical cables—to take on a state of superposition, which means they can represent multiple combinations of 1 and 0 simultaneously.

The particles are known as quantum bits, or qubits. The beauty of qubits from a cybersecurity perspective is that if a hacker tries to observe them in transit, their super-fragile quantum state “collapses” to either 1 or 0. This means a hacker can’t tamper with the qubits without leaving behind a telltale sign of the activity.


Some companies have taken advantage of this property to create networks for transmitting highly sensitive data based on a process called quantum key distribution, or QKD. In theory, these networks are ultra-secure
