Sina reported:

Why is a routine check sortie being glamorized so much? The PLAAF jets weren't inside our territory and neither were our jets in theirs. So what's the "tension" for?

Stupid thread title.

Kolkata, Dec 2 : Operational preparedness of troops deployed along the border with China and security situation in the northeastern states was reviewed by Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh here today.

“Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag briefed the Army Chief on the operational preparedness and the security scenario in the eastern region,” defence spokesperson Group Capt T K Singha said here.

The Eastern Command of the Army is in-charge of securing the region east of Kolkata up to Arunachal Pradesh covering India’s boundary with China.

India is upgrading its defence preparedness along the eastern boundary by raising more troops, new formations and deploying more lethal assets such as the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.

This was Gen Singh’s maiden visit to the Fort William-based Command headquarter since taking over as Army Chief on May 31, this year.

The visit follows his earlier visits to the three Corps headquarters under Eastern Command based at Sukna, Dimapur and Tezpur in recent months.

“It is virtually a homecoming,” said Gen Singh on arrival. Having commanded the Eastern Command for over two years, this is one formation that is very close to my heart,” he said.

As a mark of respect to former Prime Minister I K Gujral, who passed away on Friday, several planned social events were cancelled during the visit, the spokesperson said.

The Army Chief, who has so far addressed nearly 16,000 officers during his official visits to various formations and units across the country, including via video conferencing, addressed over 250 officers including lady officers, posted in and around Kolkata.

Sharing his vision to enhance operational effectiveness of the Army, he dwelt on some of the thrust areas that include effective fulfilment of the constitutional obligations and assigned roles, including force modernisation as per stipulated time lines.

Gen Singh also stressed on effective human resource management to ensure highest standards of motivation and morale.

“In my reckoning, unless these people are happy, the Army cannot be strong and happy. We cannot afford to ignore our exservicemen and ‘veer naris’ (war widows),” he said, while delving on various measures initiated for their welfare.

I guess, India is now totally prepared. The stage is ready, now a single flame can start unfolding the drama. A total war that was last seen on the landscape of Europa and is still seen as Black and White TV Documentaries. I can't wait for sirens being sounded and people running for shelter.... we are in war at last. Just need something that can spark the flame.

India has to permanently base soldiers in the border. The road connectivity is as bad as it can be. Our elders have written to the Bhutanese and Indian authorities to open road to tawang via Bhutan. That would be beneficial to the civilians as well as the Indian army. It takes the Indian army more than a day to reach sela(which is not even at the border) from tezpur, which a jet covers the same distance in less than 15 minutes. the roads are not only "mountainous" but also suffer from regular wear and tear. BRO is 24/7 and 365 days at work repairing the roads.

But don't we have a pact with the Bhutanese whereby in case shyte hits the fan we can use their territory to transport troops? Let's face it; we both have the same threats and if we get invaded, you can be damn sure Bhutan won't be sitting safe either.

I was under the impression that Tawang connection to rest of the country is already open from Bhutan in wartimes.

Indian airforce and civilian choppers do use Bhutanese airspace.
and a pact is what the locals are pressing for. Village headmen of all villages in Tawang have sent a written request to the Bhutanese government.

We don't need connectivity in times of wartime. A lot many soldiers die as result of accidents on the treacherous roads of west kameng district. To be honest, the Army drivers are not upto the mark. They should employ local drivers atleast.
