Breaking: Israeli military escalation in Gaza

^^

Is Lieberman being pressured by Israeli media/political establishment to be more 'tough'? I do not believe Israel will declare a military campaign over some weekly demonstrations on the border. The participants are ordinary people fed up, some have various political affiliations, as everyone else in the world does. They have a right to demonstrate against the ongoing siege. Palestinian movements have refrained from getting involved, and that is the right course of action.

Israel demands Palestinians end violent means of resistance, yet it is making violent threats in wake of Palestinians undergoing peaceful means of demonstration. I believe this is a bluff, and Lieberman/Likud need to realize there is a serious humanitarian crisis ongoing in Gaza, and serious oppression against the Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. They refuse to allow any country to take care of Gaza, they will not allow any country to build a port for Palestinians or send necessary aid. Instead they want control over the sea borders/land borders. And they will bomb any seaport created for the Palestinians by another country. Hence they are responsible for livelihood of both Palestinians in Gaza and West Bank. And need to start considering peaceful means to alleviate these crises.

If Israel doesn't remove the siege the civilian population will break in and demand a right to an ordinary life in Israel. As for Palestinian military factions, they are not going to be dragged into a military conflict.

Hamas has intensified its violent demonstrations against Israel, turning the border between the Jewish state and the Gaza Strip into a "24/7" war zone as the terrorist group amps up its efforts to kidnap Israeli soldiers, according to Israeli security sources and regional reports.

Hamas ramped up this past week its months-long violent demonstrations along the Gaza border as part of new plans to "kidnap soldiers so that it will have a bargaining chip to use against Israel for speeding up the removal of the blockade," according to an investigation into new ways Hamas is probing Israel's defenses provided by the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, or JCPA, a security research institute.

Violence raged throughout the weekend and into late Monday, with some 20,000 Palestinians participating in the demonstration, which have grown increasingly violent as Hamas operatives begin to deploy explosive devices, grenades, incendiary balloons, and other makeshift weapons.

Hamas's goal is create as much confusion and violence on the border as possible to elicit a response from the Israeli Defense Forces that could provide the terror group with an opportunity to kidnap soldiers. The renewed border violence is part of an effort by Hamas to test Israel's will and provoke a violent response.

"Over the past few weeks, Hamas has intensified the violence on the border after the failure of talks with Egyptian intelligence services in Cairo about reconciliation and calm and after the refusal of [Palestinian Authority] chairman Mahmoud Abbas to remove the sanctions that he imposed on the Gaza Strip," according to the JCPA's report.

"The number of participants in the demonstrations has risen to 20,000 people," the group disclosed. "Extensive use has been made of lethal tactics such as throwing explosive charges and grenades at IDF soldiers, and there has been a rise in terror attacks caused by sending incendiary balloons and kites into Israel."

Hamas's chief priority: The kidnap of Israeli soldiers so that they can be used as pawns in the terror group's campaign against Israel.

"Hamas' overall objective is to take the IDF by surprise by blowing up the fence at several points and infiltrating into Israeli territory to harm IDF soldiers or abduct them and take them into the Gaza Strip," according to the JCPA.

To this end, "Hamas has turned the violent demonstrations at the Gaza border into 24/7 events to get the IDF soldiers accustomed to the ongoing presence of Palestinian activists at the fence, including at night," the JCPA found.

"These nightly activities are carried out by a special unit called the ‘night confusion units,' which burn tires, sound sirens, blind IDF soldiers with lasers, and more," according to the report.

Violence against Israel was further fanned when Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh "made a surprise appearance at one of the demonstrations," according to the JCPA.

Additionally, an investigation by the IDF found that Palestinian protesters had "detonated a large explosive device" near a border fence.

"The explosives blew a large hole in the fence, through which around 20 terrorists infiltrated into Israel under the cover of a dense cloud of smoke created by burning tires," the JCPA reported. "An IDF force fired at them to push them back. Most of them turned back into Gaza, but three of them continued to move on toward a military outpost, where they were shot and killed."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed a devastating response to the continuing border crisis during a weekend cabinet meeting.

"Hamas has apparently not understood the message — if these attacks do not stop, they will be stopped in another way, in the form of very, very strong blows," Netanyahu was quoted as saying. "We are very close to another type of action which would include very strong blows. If Hamas is intelligent, it will cease fire and violence now."

Oh look, the Iranian air force is ready to help the people of Gaza. Just like they really helped the Kashmiris and the Afghanis during occupations by foreign countries. Oh wait..

Horseshit, there are no Israeli sources or regional reports suggesting that. Also, demonstrations are orchestrated by the march committee.

Quit playing dumb, no Israeli political or military sources suggest any such thing recently. Nor have any 'regional reports', besides these American Jewish opinionated right wing blogs you post.

You are coming in here at behest of AIPAC or another Jewish right wing American organization that has ties with Israeli gov't and is informed of an military assault being planned on Gaza and trying to justify launching an military assault out of frustration over weekly demonstrations. You can't justify heavily bombarding an already devastated strip of land because of demonstrations urging Israel to lift the siege.

These Jewish organizations in America are terrorist organizations that engage in much illegal activity and being a high ranking member in one of these organizations is no different than being an high ranking member of ISIS. In the near future the world is going to look different and they will be pursued by nations.

Not what you originally claimed, so you're moving the goalpost.

...an military assault being planned on Gaza...Jewish organizations in America are terrorist organizations -
Typical anti-Zionist propaganda, blaming the Jewish victims of violence for anti-Zionists own aggressions, labeling such aggressions "demonstrations", and labeling Jewish organizations supporting Israeli defenders as "terrorists". Why should Pakistanis continue to put up with this dreck rather than dump the anti-Zionists and openly side with Israel?

This has nothing to do with Pakistan, stay on topic or I'll report your posts.

Anyway back to topic, Israel should think twice before launching an military assault on the civilians/civilian infrastructure of Gaza. They should figure out a way to alleviate the siege or let other countries in the region take over.

Kushner and Bloomberg are Jewish terrorists, if they support any such assault it will come back to bite them in the future.

Done. Plenty of stuff gets in and out; it's weapons and potential weapons that are restricted.

or let other countries in the region take over.
And not think of protecting the Israeli populace or Israeli property? As if Israelis exist solely to benefit Palestinian Arabs and can have no value or rights otherwise?

Israeli military echelon is pressing the Israeli government to alleviate the siege now, Israeli political echelon is refusing:

The moment long feared is fast approaching in Gaza, according to a new report by the World Bank. After a decade-long Israeli blockade and a series of large-scale military assaults, the economy of the tiny coastal enclave is in “freefall”.

At a meeting of international donors in New York on Thursday, coinciding with the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, the World Bank painted an alarming picture of Gaza’s crisis. Unemployment now stands at close to 70 per cent and the economy is contracting at an ever-faster rate.

While the West Bank’s plight is not yet as severe, it is not far behind, countries attending the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee were told. Gaza’s collapse could bring down the entire Palestinian banking sector.

In response, Europe hurriedly put together a €40 million (Dh170.5m) aid package, but that will chiefly address Gaza’s separate humanitarian crisis – not the economic one – by improving supplies of electricity and potable water.

No one doubts the inevitable fallout from the economic and humanitarian crises gripping Gaza. The four parties to the quartet charged with overseeing negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians – the United States, Russia, the EU and the UN – issued a statement, warning that it was vital to prevent what they termed “further escalation” in Gaza.

The Israeli military shares these concerns. It has reported growing unrest among the enclave’s two million inhabitants and believes Hamas will be forced into a confrontation to break out of the straightjacket imposed by the blockade.

Wow a rocket from Gaza causes this ? That's new ... maybe the Palestinian resistance has found a way to counter Iron Dome. It's unclear now who is behind this yet, I will update.

It could be a rogue group working on behalf of Israel or Palestinian Resistance factions sending warning to the Israeli's that they will not accept Israeli ultimatum against Palestinian demonstrators.

Keep in mind Lieberman was due to consult with Cabinet this morning(morning in Israel/Palestine) to begin an military assault of some form against Gaza because Israel doesn't want Palestinians to demonstrate along the border. So this should be a warning to that terrorist and his terrorist country which thinks they are justified in launching an military assault as a 'reaction' to protests.

Edit:

The Palestinian factions received info from Egypt that Israel was due to begin attacking the next morning/afternoon. So this should be seen as both a warning yet at same time Palestinian factions don't seek war. Israel should not engage in an military assault against civilians in Gaza over demonstrations. No country in the world starts bombing an occupied territory because of protests.

Israel Is Captive to Its 'Destructive Process'

Raul Hilberg, in his monumental work “The Destruction of the European Jews,” chronicled a process of repression that at first was “relatively mild” but led, step by step, to the Holocaust. It started with legal discrimination and ended with mass murder. “The destructive process was a development that was begun with caution and ended without restraint,” Hilberg wrote.

The Palestinians over the past few decades have endured a similar “destructive process.” They have gradually been stripped of basic civil liberties, robbed of assets including much of their land and often their homes, have suffered from mounting restrictions on their physical movements, been blocked from trading and business, especially the selling of produce, and found themselves increasingly impoverished and finally trapped behind walls and security fences erected around Gaza and the West Bank.

“The process of destruction [of the European Jews] unfolded in a definite pattern,” Hilberg wrote. “It did not, however, proceed from a basic plan. No bureaucrat in 1933 could have predicted what kind of measures would be taken in 1938, nor was it possible in 1938 to foretell the configuration of the undertaking in 1942. The destructive process was a step-by-step operation, and the administrator could seldom see more than one step ahead.”

There will never be transports or extermination camps for the Palestinians, but amid increasing violence against Palestinians larger and larger numbers of them will die, in airstrikes, targeted assassinations and other armed attacks. Hunger and misery will expand. Israeli demands for “transfer”—the forced expulsion of Palestinians from occupied territory to neighboring countries—will grow.

The Palestinians in Gaza live in conditions that now replicate those first imposed on Jews by the Nazis in the ghettos set up throughout Eastern Europe. Palestinians cannot enter or leave Gaza. They are chronically short of food—the World Health Organization estimates that more than 50 percent of children in Gaza and the West Bank under 2 years old have iron deficiency anemia and reports that malnutrition and stunting in children under 5 are “not improving” and could actually be worsening. Palestinians often lack clean water. They are crammed into unsanitary hovels. They do not have access to basic medical care. They are stateless and lack passports or travel documents. They live with massive unemployment. They are daily dehumanized in racist diatribes by their occupiers as criminals, terrorists and mortal enemies of the Jewish people.

“A deep and wide moral abyss separates us from our enemies,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said recently of the Palestinians. “They sanctify death while we sanctify life. They sanctify cruelty while we sanctify compassion.”

Ayelet Shaked, a member of the right-wing Jewish Home Party, on her Facebook page June 30 posted an article written 12 years ago by the late Uri Elitzur, a leader in the settler movement and a onetime adviser to Netanyahu, saying the essay is as “relevant today as it was then.” The article said in part: “They [the Palestinians] are all enemy combatants, and their blood shall be on all their heads. Now this also includes the mothers of the martyrs, who send them to hell with flowers and kisses. They should follow their sons, nothing would be more just. They should go, as should the physical homes in which they raised the snakes. Otherwise, more little snakes will be raised there.”

The belief that a race or class is contaminated is used by ruling elites to justify quarantining the people of that group. But quarantine is only the first step. The despised group can never be redeemed or cured—Hannah Arendtnoted that all racists see such contamination as something that can never be eradicated. The fear of the other is stoked by racist leaders such as Netanyahu to create a permanent instability. This instability is exploited by a corrupt power elite that is also seeking the destruction of democratic civil society for all citizens—the goal of the Israeli government (as well as the goal of a U.S. government intent on stripping its own citizens of rights). Max Blumenthal in his book “Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel” does a masterful job of capturing and dissecting this frightening devolution within Israel.

The last time Israel mounted a Gaza military assault as severe as the current series of attacks was in 2008, with Operation Cast Lead, which lasted from Dec. 27 of that year to Jan. 18, 2009. That attack saw 1,455 Palestinians killed, including 333 children. Roughly 5,000 more Palestinians were injured. A new major ground incursion, which would be designed to punish the Palestinians with even greater ferocity, would cause a far bigger death toll than Operation Cast Lead did. The cycle of escalating violence, this “destructive process,” as the history of the conflict has illustrated, would continue at an accelerating rate.
