EVENT

A suicide bomber targeted a protest outside the Punjab provincial assembly building in Lahore's Charing Cross area on 13 February 2017, killing at least 13 people and injuring more than 80 others.

The protest by pharmaceutical distributors appears to have been targeted opportunistically due to its proximity to the provincial assembly building and the presence of senior police officers. The attack was claimed by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JA), a faction of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has been particularly active since 2014. In a video released following the attack, a JA spokesperson warned that the incident was the first of 'Operation Ghazi', which will focus on larger attacks across the country.

There is already police operation going on against sectarian militants. Many LeJ militants have been killed in Punjab in the last few months but some how there is a perception that there is no operation in Punjab. Even Monday bomber came from FATA/Afghanistan so what does here mean by grand operation in Punjab ? This false perception can only be cleared if Govt takes action against Lal Masjid cleric in Islamabad and Nisar stop meeting with sectarian leaders of banned organizations.
