KARACHI: Six policemen were killed while one more sustained injuries when two police vehicles came under hand grenade attack outside the Muhajir Qaumi Movement chief Afaq Ahmed’s residence here on Saturday.



Police said that unidentified armed men hurled a hand grenade at a police vehicle deployed outside the Afaq Ahmed’s residence for security purpose. As soon as another vehicle arrived at the site of the incident the armed men opened fire on it.



Police and Rangers have surrounded three streets of Landhi No.6 and launched search operation.



The bodies of policemen have been shifted to Jinnah Hospital.

KARACHI: CID Karachi has claimed busting a gang of sectarian target killers.


Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Incharge CID Raja Umar Khitab said that two target killers Johar Hussain and Irshad Hussain were arrested believed to be involved in 60 murders.


He said the target killers had themselves confessed to kill 8 people, and their ring leader was named as Wasim Hussain Jafri , all members of banned Sipah-e-Muhammad.


The suspects, he revealed, used to target people at a monthly payment of Rs.25, 000.


Raja Umar Khitab revealed that the target killers used to travel to a neighboring country for training purpose, via Dubai.

Besides individual acts of targeted killings, the arrested persons also revealed to have targeted the central leader of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, Maulana Aurangzaib Farooqui in Gulshan-e-Iqbal in December 2012 in which the leader was injured while six of his guards, including four policemen, were killed. “Few of their members were also arrested in the past but were later released from the jails,” said the official, adding that the police was looking for the mastermind and more group members.
