India's indigenous supersonic cruise missile, BrahMos, had failed in its latest test conducted at Chandipur off Odisha coast, the Parliament has been informed.

Defence Minister A.K. Antony told the Rajya Sabha, the council of states, that a developmental flight test of BrahMos was carried out on July 29 this year with 25 new components and sub-systems such as new power systems, materials for airframe components, guidance scheme and various electric systems produced in India, substituting those made in Russia.

"In this test, except for one sub-system, all other sub-systems and components have performed to the requirement," Antony said in his written reply to questions.

The malfunction of the sub-system resulted in increase in velocity of the missile, crossing the limit and leading to aborting the mission.

"The defect has been rectified after analysis. Further development flight tests will be conducted as a measure of self-reliance," Antony said.

The test flight of BrahMos, a 290-km cruise missile jointly developed by India and Russia, was carried out from the integrated test range at Chandipur on July 29. This was the 32nd test of BrahMos that can touch three Mach (three times the speed of sound) speeds.

The objective of the mission was to evaluate some of the newer subsystems which are produced from the Indian industry as part of production stabilisation

The data obtained from the test-firing was analysed for large-scale production of the sub-systems and components by Indian industries.

It was an experimental flight of the two-stage missile -- the first being solid and the second one ramjet liquid propellant.

The missile has already been inducted into the Indian Army and the Indian Navy. The Indian Air Force version of BrahMos is in the final stages of trials.

The Indian Navy first inducted the BrahMos-I version of the missile in 2005 and INS Rajput, a guided missile destroyer, was the first class of Indian warship to deploy it on board.

Later, Indian Army inducted the missile in two of its regiments and deployed them along the borders with Pakistan. The army now plans to deploy the missiles in a regiment in the northeastern part of India too along the borders with China in the near future.

The BrahMos missile's air and submarine launch version are being developed.

BrahMos missile is a joint venture between India and Russia under the Brahmos Aerospace headed by Indian Defence scientist A. Sivathanu Pillai.

The previous trial of BrahMos was conducted successfully on March 28 this year from Chandipur.

The new subsystems are the culprits. Better work on them nicely.

Good to know that only one subsytem failed. The important thing is that all the others worked. No matter. We need to do some more tests until we get it right.

This is just the matter of time before we get it right . End of discussion

For want of a nail a battle was lost. One minor component can screw up an entire system however high tech. A spark plug costing a hundred bucks can stall a Ferrari costing a million!

So our guys will do better if they concentrate on the little things too!

Cheers!

pakistanis with inferiority complex filled to the neck have assaulted the thread. must pakistanis
be so inferior in every thread? you can't build a 3rd generation jf-17 in-house you were caught red-handed
importing jf-17 fuselages from china with il-78.

i pity pak navy warships struggling to target IN ships with their stupid 180-km harpoons and
c-802s against In ships armed with 290-km BrahMos and Klub. In will just blast pak ships from standoff
range and cruise off even without coming into engagement range and PN can go to hell:)

That's not a big new's i think it's india's old habit almost first five test of every missile must fail! LOL whole world know about india's nuclear n missile technology! GO INDIA GO keep failin...

Failing is good. Especially now. Cuz we dont want the system to fail in times of need do we? Thats how you keep learning and adding value ^^. Pakistan never fails. Cuz it never tests? :D:D

Cum'on such karwa hota ha no doubt check all these video's outcha!

are these enough to prove or u want some more?

And here india's own media is showing the truth about pak/india missile now please keep Quite!

Sit calm n watch these vid'z n enjoy with some popcorn's ;)

hail pakistan :pakistan: the only country in history to have no failures in testing missiles............... guess what the north koreans and chinese have tested them a dozen times and have made them so reliable that the failure rate is minimal.........on topic missiles are complex systems esp brahmos is so complex that a 100 things can go wrong, even my UG ECE project(which is simple as hell) failed 4 in 10 times when i showed demo,,,,,so there must have been production glitches or problems with new systems but the design itself is proven(see succes vs failure ratio)............. pakistan is so successful that if they aim their shaheens now at the moon and fire it would land the payload there and tadaaaaaa ZAID HAMIDs dream of pakistan in moon will become true.........
