India successfully test-fires 290-km range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile

India-Russia Missile Successfully Test Fired from Indian Warship

MOSCOW, June 9 (RIA Novosti) – India’s armed forces successfully test launched a BrahMos supersonic anti-ship cruise missile, developed jointly with Russia, from the country’s newest warship INS Kolkata, the PTI news agency reported Monday quoting Indian defense officials.

The missile-launch took place earlier this morning off the west coast of India near the Karwar military base in Karnataka. During the test all the requirements were met, the officials said.

The missile was created by the Indo-Russian joint venture BrahMos Aerospace founded in 1998 by the Indian Defense Research and Development Organization and Russian rocket design bureau Mashinostroyeniya. The venture was named after two rivers, the Brahmaputra in India and Russia’s Moskva.

Deliveries of BrahMos missiles to the Indian Armed Forces started in 2005. BrahMos, which is the world’s fastest cruise missile in operation, can travel at speeds of up to Mach 3. The missile has a maximum range of 290 km and can carry a warhead of up to 300 kg.

Ground and sea trials of the missile have already been successful. The BrahMos is expected to be deployed with Su-30MKI fighter-bombers jointly developed by Russia’s Sukhoi Design Bureau and India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the Indian Air Force.

Such a shame. lol

Pakistan's air-launched cruise missiles have superior ranges, more payload, and can carry nuclear warhead...while Brahmos lacks all of these even after being a Land/Sea launch weapon...

Only thing this junk has is speed...and that is supersonic. Like stone-age technology.

Pakistan's CM-400AKG is a hyper-sonic missile.

indians..look at a "real" cruise missile with 21st century technology that is not junk like brahmos..

Advantages of Ra'ad over Brahmos

- Superior range
- Stealth (unlike junk Brahmos).
- Larger, more powerful warhead
- Can deliver a nuclear-strike.

Advantages of Brahmos over Ra'ad

- More speed.

:omghaha::omghaha::omghaha:

But its Chinese missiles you have bro, please buy two just in case one fails to function as claimed.

Act matured my friend, you don't want to reduce the quality of this thread or this forum,do you?

And for your post,Pakistan's air launched cruise missile Ra'ad and land based cruise missile Babur both flies at a speed of 0.8 mach, which is close to the top speed of a Boeing 737.

The lesser speed, more reaction time one gets to shoot it down.India's Lakshya PTA also flies at similiar speed and several excercises have been held in which Lakshyas mimicking cruise missiles have been shotdown at various levels, including tree top levels.

BrahMos,on the other hand flies at 3 times the speed of sound (several times greater than Babur and Ra'ad),that too with Pinpoint accuracy, making it very difficult to shoot down.

About the payload, both BrahMos and Babur/Ra'ad carries 300kg payloads,so not much of a difference (correct me if I am wrong, with a source).

Regarding range, yes Babur holds an advantage over BrahMos,we have similiar Nirbhay under development.

BrahMos can be launched from underwater and surface ships too,and an airlaunched version is underdevelopment.

Normal Brahmos has payload of 200 KG while ALCM version will have payload of 300 KG.

However Brahmos boasts of very huge kinetic impact, 64 times greater than that of tomahawk.

I read it on wiki long ago, though now that info is missing from Brahmos wiki article.

Brahmos launched from INS KOLKATA,and we're yet to see a high resolution pic of the ship??? :pissed::pissed:

So...what is the different with Yakhont ?

This is Indonesia Yakhont missile test (180 km range)

Imagine 16 brahmos in 1 salvo.....no ship will survive such a saturation attack.

There is one teeny weeny problem.. Dr. Pillai must do something about increasing its range. 300 km just won't cut it.

We need a 1,000 Km cruise missile.

I would not be too sure.

Modern AESA destroyers can track and shoot down supersonic missiles, engaging 12 or more simultaneously. Any that get through can be engaged by the CIW systems as the last line of defence.

Well 16 is too much for one ship, soviets estimated that it would take a 24 supersonic missile(sunburn/moskit/granit) salvo to kill a carrier by overwhleming the defenses of the entire CBG.So chance for one ship against 16 brahmos is zero.
