Dubai prosecution offices sealed off after woman threatens to detonate explosives belt

Police have sealed off the Dubai Prosecution Building after a woman visitor threatened to detonate an explosives belt.

Prosecution sources said that the woman - thought to be a Syrian in her late 30s - entered the building shortly after 1pm accompanied by a child, thought to be aged 6, and stood next to the reception desk.

This picture was taken by a prosecution worker shortly after the building was evacuated.

Sources said the woman was known to prosecutors and had previously visited the building on numerous occasions. Her husband is thought to be in custody.

It is believed that the woman is demanding to talk to a high ranking official.

Police, Civil Defence, ambulance, and rescue personnel have cordoned off the area around the building in Bur Dubai close to the floating bridge and bystanders are being moved away.

A police officer at the scene said the deputy chief of Dubai Police, Major General Khamis Al Mazeina, has taken charge of operations.

Dubai: A 31-year-old Syrian woman threatened to blow herself up at the Dubai Public Prosecution, Gulf News learnt on Sunday.

The expatriate woman was asking for the immediate release of her husband from jail.

Security forces immediately vacated everyone inside the building, which is located along the Dubai Creek.

Sources from the Public Prosecution confirmed the incident and said that police are now interrogating the woman.

Prosecution sources said that the woman - thought to be a Chechen in her late 30s - entered the building shortly after 1pm accompanied by a child, thought to be aged 6, and stood next to the reception desk.

At around 3.50pm, officers escorted a female lawyer into the building to speak to the woman.

An employee at the prosecution building said the woman was talking to officials about her husband who is in Dubai Central Prison. She was speaking in Arabic, English and Russian.

She needs help. Don't know what happened. Seems like the Emirati police handled it very well.

The Caucasians in KSA and the rest of the Arab world are peaceful people that like us Arabs and we like them. There is a religious, historic and even genetic bond between us.
