What's new

Bollywood is killing our film industry, say Pakistan’s actors

When you start to do a new thing, all you do is repeat what you learnt from your teachers or use what you have learnt..

that is exactly what happened, that is rahman's first film, he was inspired by Vangelis. but it is not complete ripoff... also listen to his other music, slowly over the years he has pulled out of it and has created his own world, his own style... please he is way beyond anybodys league....

appreciate good work... he revolutionized indian music. ofcourse it was earlier filled with anu malik copied stuff earlier until rahman broke in to the scene and changed it...

btw, anu malik also copies rahman and says he was inspired by them...

No one is denying that A.R Rahman is not talented, he is probably the best composer in South Asia but in terms of music in general, that includes all other forms apart from film music. Pakistan is a lot better then India, we had the honor of creating new genres like Sufi Rock, many firsts in Asia like first boy band Vital Signs and also first collaboration with western artists, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan with Peter Gabriel in late 80's.

Our music industry has a lot of variation and it caters to many different groups. Fusion music from Coke Studio is one such example of innovation in music.

boss, i dont agree with this word - better.. I would agree with equality...

btw, George Harrison (of the Beatles) played the sitar on the song "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)" in 1965, which sparked interest from Shankar, who subsequently took Harrison as his apprentice. Jazz innovator Miles Davis recorded and performed with musicians like Khalil Balakrishna, Bihari Sharma, and Badal Roy in his post-1968 electric ensembles.

also, indus creed was started earlier than vital signs

If you are in US/UK, most of cultural performances have indian carnatic and hindustani artists performing more frequently. It is a very thriving following there...

Carnatic fusion is also an innovation... lot of westerners come over to learn to play the instruments... India is definitely doing great in it..

Pakistan film industry can produce low budget quality films with tax breaks. The Indian film were banned for a long time but films produced during that time were low quality and some were copies of Indian films. Then the VHS players gave a fatal blow since people could watch Indian films at home. Now with the Internet streaming videos and Satellites people can watch anything at any time.

.
Problem is manyfold

Firstly their isn,t the massive budgets that Bollywood enjoys.

Their is n,t the marketing and distribution skills that india enjoys

And basically Indian Actors/actresses are world famous and very glamourous and pakistanis flock in their millions to watch their bollywood heart throbs.

I personaly don,t know of one single pakistani actor.

Yet bollywood people are recognised thru out the world

Pakistanis cant produce the icons and the glamour like their indian neighbours.

I am not talking about single collaborations but albums being made for the western market. The first such instance was with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

also, indus creed was started earlier than vital signs

Indus creed was a cover band, their first original album came after Vital Signs. They are not known or renowned as Vital Signs.

I have lived in UK and I have not seen much influence of what you are referring to. Maybe in older times when hippy culture was 'in'.

I guess to each to his own but I am sure that you will find better variance and innovation in our music.

Like I said before, our industry only dies when Zia destroyed it with his laws. I am sure you would know that during older times, Pakistani film industry was equally as good.

As for Pakistani actors, there are many and have been recognized for some time, even by their indian counter parts. In the older generation we had the likes of Mohammed Ali, Nadeem, Waheed Muraad and many others. Today we have Shaan, Moammer Rana, Adnan Sami become famous with a Pakistani film.

The film industry was hurt because of strict regulations enforced by 'Islamic' Mard-e-Momin Zia.

Following Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq's military coup, he began to Islamicise the country and one of the very first victims of this socio-political change included the film industry.[35] Imposition of new registration laws for film producers requiring filmmakers to be degree holders, where not many were, led to a steep decline in the workings of the industry. The government forcibly closed most of the cinemas in Lahore.[36] New tax rates were introduced, further decreasing cinema attendances.

We still have the ability to produce excellent films and you will see the film industry rise again.

Plus there is a new movie coming out that might be very helpful in reviving tradition film production.

Now you are trying to nitpick and adding new things like " not collaboration but album", "first boy band to not renowned"..

vital signs were a pop singers group doing cover albums too until vital signs 1 in 1989, that is the same year when indus creed released their first all originalrock album...

all in all, both india and pakistan has unique music traditions and have the potential to make amazing music..

I can guess why indian aren't defending blatant lies are told and baseless myths are spread like this barring few south indians we i presume are familiar with bollywood.

1.someone i assume(D-faz) said DDL(dil wale dulhaniya laygayenge is rip off a Pakistani film called Love story. LOl is response.

2.some brilliant movie historian claimed Lollywood of the 60s and 70s was better than Bollywood.

Well, its has unimosly accepted that 60s and 70s with stars like Dillip Kumar,Raj Kapor,Deveand in the 60s and later on Amitab Baccna,Rajesh Khaan in the 70s those two decaes are called golden age of Bollywood

3.Then its claimed Pakistani music was copied in Bollywood.

Some case might be true, but in most cases its the original Pakistani singer who sings those copied song after indian composer and lyricists do some fine tuning.

4.Its been said india is poaching Pakistani talent.

well, let me tell u its in india or indian at the helm lot of Pakistan talent breaks and media highlight. e,g Nazia Hassan got her first break from indian composer "Biddu" who composed those very popular disco numbers.

I wont compare classical singer as they aren't bollywood or lollywood.

5.Someone one said Pakistani muslic is differnet league compared to Bollywood music.

I wholeheartedly agree with u kiddo.I just case that when its comes musical style of storytelling ,its been bastion of bollywood since begninng.I wont name compare our music directors or playback singers ,it'll be an insult to them.

6. Jana as usual took her minimalist anti indian position and called indian all rip off copies of hollywood ,even lollywood.

I can only say thing that if it give some solace or sense comfort than u can assume anything u want.

But pls don't ever compare Bollywood to our now defunct lollywood outside ur cocoon called Pakistan, u would laught out of the room ,if not battered with insults.

my two cents.
