I'm actually not against this one. They have systematically built a manufacturing presence for Long term with partners like Tata instead of just letting HAL take blue print and build like France has been doing. This might be an extremely intelligent, long term partnership option with good results for the Indian Industry in general. Very foresightful of them.

You mean like the MMRCA tender that the new government was supposed to approve by the end of last year?

Somehow I knew u were gonna bring this up. :welcome:

First, Modi government found that MMRCA has many loop holes n grey areas. So they cancelled it n initiated a new government to government deal.

Second, DM wanted only 36 due to high cost of these birds. Keep in mind that MMRCA is dead n a new deal has been initiated. This new deal was initiated only in April. This new deal is NOT just for 36 birds. I'll leave it at that.

Third sir, we are not buying aloo n piyaaj. For a entire new deal, that is worth BILLIONS, to finish in less than a year, is a feat in itself.

If that's not fast, I don't know what is?

I am very much sure india will buy in some american stuff to please them. India will end up buying bits and pieces from every one to keep all of them happy and engaged. It does not matter whether it makes sense technically or militarily. Its simply realpolitik of political economics.

There is no confusion that India will not buy any fighter Plane from USA in future.

I dont get it.

When mmrca tender was floated decade ago, boieng and lockheen martin both participated knowing that planes are supposed to be built in india according to the tender. It means they were ready for make in india decade ago itself, yet india rejected them and went with rafale.

And then what is new in this news again if boeing wants to manufacture f-18 in india ? What is the dfference between previous offer and this one ?

so in short boeing is planning to make apaches , chinooks and lasd based version of F/A-18 EF in india under make in india scheme and TATA is there prefferred partner .... good what next
