What's new

BN signed a contract for two more Type 053H3 frigates, including ex- Putian (pennant number 523)

The kilo in this photo is the INS Sindhurakshak not the one MM got
Ha Ha.
Actually BN ships came from junkyard not shipyard.

. . .
So 4 type 053s and 2 Type 054s?
The type 54s most probably will be new. Given we heard from Chinese posters a deal was signed.

Yes I know you said that but makes no difference to my argument.

Next-gen frigates are expected to roll out early next decade and so we need to stick with that. Even if delayed till 2025 what exactly is going to happen to BD's position via it's neighbours. Myanmar is not going anywhere up soon(got Kilo from India worse than the Type-35G that BD has) and India is on another level.

I already mentioned that these will make no difference to India as they are currently building stuff like this:

These are 7400 tonnes in displacement and one of them probably has more firepower as all the frigates and corvettes in BN combined.
What exactly difference are these two extra Type-53H3 going to make in confrontation to India?

Tell you the truth I was not exactly thrilled when they brought the original 2 but somehow was persuaded that they would be good to fill the stop-gap as the next-gen frigates were delayed. Another 2 is just ridiculous.
These ships will just burn BN's resources but I do not make the decision here.
Numbers. It will balance it out for bd.

If you only knew a little about ships, the panels are red not because of rust, it’s a paint to prevent rust. Smh
You expect a ship to float with the amount of rust you think it has?

Thanks bro.

Ok, so we are looking at two Type-054As coming soon to provide BN some real firepower before the next generation frigates start rolling out - may not now seen the 1st one in service till 2025 I suppose?
That is fine as long as BN has some real firepower with the Type-054A in the next 1-2 years.

Even if you take account those Corvettes, the life of the major surface ships is more than 20.

S 161 + S 162 life is 60 years
F 15 + F 17 life is 65 years
F 28 + F 29 life is 99 years
F 16 + F 19 life is 41 years
F 111 to F 114 life is 8 years

Total life of 12 major ships that inducted to BN after 2009 is 273 years. Simple maths.

Let me do the ones with the ships handed over to BD since 2009:

S161 + S162 life is 60 years
F 15 + F 17 life is 65 years
F 28 + F 29 life is 99 years
F 16 + F 19 life is 41 years
F 111 to F 114 life is 6 years - joined the fleet in 2016
F113 to F114 is 0 years - you missed these two out

Total life of 14 major ships that have been inducted to BN after 2009 is 271 years

That gives an average of just under 20 years.

So BN is getting a good mix of brand new(Type-056 corvette) and old Type-053H3 frigates that are still way better than anything that MN has right now.

hmmmm........seems like a rusting submarine. Was it bought or gifted?

Gifted by India that is trying to retain some kind of influence with Myanmar via-a-vis China.

I think that this ship will only ever serve training needs as it is even worse than the modernised Type-035Gs that BD got from China, and they will end up with a couple of Russian kilos.

Thanks bro.

Given that we’re considering type 54, I reckon the frigate building project will ultimately go to China, even though lots of meetings have been held with western shipyards. idk much about it though

I think that China will get it as the next-gen frigates are really for India and not Myanmar.

Bulk of BD Navy seems to be ending up as Chinese origin it seems.

Wrong.
F 111 to F 114 is six years coz
F 111 +F 112 is six years.
F 113 + F 114 is 0 years.

That's why I said F 111 to F 114 is 6 years.
12 ships 271 years.

My bad but the four F111 to F114 are only six years old in total as the F111 and F112 have been in service for a total of 6 years and the F113 and F114 were only delivered this year.

So this makes 12 ships with a total age of 271 years, which works out to be 23 years on average and so @Arthur was quite accurate when he said that the age was now down to 20 years.

Even saying this do you have anything in your Navy that is anywhere near to the firepower of the Type-053H3 that BN has?

Let us look at specs:

The C-802A has a range of 190km.
FM-90 can engage 3 targets simultaneously out to 15km
The torpedo and ASW rockets will be useful to hunt down submarines

BN will have a total of 4 of these ships when the just ordered two are delivered in 2020/2021.

For good reasons. China is now the biggest shipbuilders period. No one can outdo their pricing and their tech is definitely on par or exceeding. It is a no brainer

MN will remain weak due to tiny GDP(1/5th of that of BD and gap actually getting larger) and so BN can deal with them with things like the AW-159E helicopter that it has placed an order for two recently.

The big bully is India and Chinese frigate tech is perfect to provide the right balance of performance to price. I expect a Chinese design to come in at least 100 million US dollar cheaper per frigate than a Western design and supply will not be an issue in case of conflict with India.

@Avicenna & @Bilal9 - Your thoughts on this will be appreciated.

Not sure to be honest.

Lets see where this goes.

Each approach obviously has its own sets of pros and cons.

Generally speaking however, I am all for a mix of Chinese and Western weapons.

Myanmar is a problem as long as those muppets are in in power.

And of course, BJP is a far more serious threat medium to long term.

I would love to see a mix of Chinese and Western equipment in use with BN.

Bascially impossible now...

China would choose to export the whole system, not just the hull.
