Bleeding in Siachen: Pakistan losing 30 soldiers a year EconomicTimes

.
A Siachen withdrawal will only happen as part of a larger peace deal. Not otherwise.

May be. But the Army will not come down without ensuring a proper framework in place.Specially after Kargil backstabbing.

.
Pakistan does not have any soldier on the Siachen. They have on the other side of the Saltoro Ridge. Entire Siachen glacier is in India's hands.
Presently India holds two-thirds of the glacier and commands two of the three passes including the highest motorable pass – Khardungla Pass. Pakistan controls Gyong La pass that overlooks the Shyok and Nubra river Valley and India`s access to Leh district.

Pakistan refused to give guarantee as pre-condition.
Indian army feels pakistan army will occupy it as soon as indian army empties the post.
The then Indian Army chief, General V.P. Malik vetoed the move, demanding iron-clad guarantees as a precondition, which Pakistan has refused to concede till date.

India controls the whole glacier, that's now an accepted fact. The Indian & Pakistani forces are facing each other on the Saltoro ridge with India controlling almost all the heights. Pakistani troops can't even see the Siachen glacier from their posts, let alone be on it.

It's a mistake. The glacier is entirely in Indian hands. Only the other side of the Saltoro Ridge is in Pakistani hands. And if Pakistan vacates it, India will take it too reaching right upto Gyari. There the defense will be much easier for India.

Pakistan should ideally suffer fewer casualties because they are not living on the glacier itself. They have rock under their legs. The Indians used to have it much tougher. But then since the early 2000s our space program research helped our soldiers with better survival gear.

Only civilians have this dilemma. Both sides on the ground have no illusions about each other's motives.

And it is their right to not give it. Siachen is the most important reason for their Jang e Kashmir.

Na. No ego involved. Saltoro ridge is by definition the boundary of the Siachen glacier. That's why it is a ridge. The ridge has multiple passes. The other side of which is held by Pakistan.

No ego here. Just facts.

They are not on Siachen. Almost all of your experts accept that. They are there because of the Siachen issue. The avalanche at Giyari happened some 30 km west of Siachen Glacier terminus. Even your own posts are clear. Mountain passes are not on glaciers. You can't call anything & everything that you want as Siachen.
