Blackwater's Pakistan mission (and related news)

It is highly surprising that given the amount of negative publicity that the drones strike have generated in the present population the GOP has agreed for the dubious black water security services , i am sure they are not in pakistan for R&R or for training , recently there was news of the presence of 1000 marines to protect the diplomats if i am not wrong. Why there is no opposition from the political parties .

.
Perceptions about the existence of Xe in Pakistan:
1) Xe is here to give security to US diplomatic Staff. It is to ensure the safe presence of USA in this country.
2) Pakistani Government Officials are hiring the services of Black Water for their security.

.
Regarding construction, the ambassador said, the entire labour would be from Pakistan and even a Turkish contractor given the task for construction at one of the sections hired Pakistani staff where only one Turk works.

Well it will create some job opportunities in pakistan:cheers:

US envoy’s version
Dawn Editorial
Saturday, 29 Aug, 2009

PERHAPS we can now put to rest the controversy generated by the expansion plans for the US embassy building. The number of Marines is to be 'less than 20' and the bombproof Marines House is to cost $5m, not $112.5m. The bloated figure was a 'misinterpretation', as Ambassador Anne Patterson put it, of the State Department’s budget documents. The Marines would be there, she said, to guard the embassy and classified material 'inside', and there were no sinister designs.

Thursday’s press conference by Ambassador Patterson was seen as part of the embassy’s efforts towards building 'a deeper engagement' with the media to counter the purported bad press America has been getting in Pakistan. With the US now committed to a long-term engagement with Pakistan, there will obviously be more hands needed to run the diplomatic and consular services. Of the 1,450 embassy staff, 1,000 are Pakistanis. Half of the projected increase of 500 staff will be local.

The most welcome part of the ambassador’s briefing was her hint that Pakistan could turn into a 'family station'. Because of the terror wave that has gripped the country since 9/11 and the way innocent foreigners have been abducted and slaughtered by the Taliban, many embassies have treated Pakistan as a 'non-family' station. The tide is turning against the rebels, the military has gained the upper hand in Swat and 1.6 million IDPs have returned home. But much remains to be done. The post-Baitullah leadership has given no indication it believes in peace, and the iftar-time attack on a security post near Torkham gives an idea of its criminal designs to continue to wage war on the state and people of Pakistan. The onus is on Islamabad to improve the security situation in a way that makes foreigners feel they are safe in Pakistan.

Dear Readers

Pakistan was reported to have expelled the head of an American NGO providing cover to Blackwater operations on Pakistani soil. Now this deported American, Crag Davis, is back in Pakistan. And he is not alone. Close to 2,000 Hummers have arrived at a Pakistani port that are not destined for Afghanistan. The world's biggest US embassy is under construction in Islamabad. As if this is not enough, the US embassy has hired a huge number of houses across the Pakistani capital to serve as unofficial local franchises. Welcome to the silent American occupation of Pakistan, with the blessing of the elected Pakistani politicians and a silent Pakistani military.

Before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was given orders to the contrary, press reports of August 6 show that its spokesman, Mr. Basit, on August 5, at the Karachi Press Club, had already given out the fact of the 1,000 US Marines coming to Pakistan for the protection of the new, imperial US embassy in islamabad .Now we are seeing houses being barricaded for US personnel all across the capital and we know of the 300 plus 'military trainers' already ensconced in Tarbela. In addition we have the notorious Blackwater (now hiding under a new label, Xe Worldwide) and the rather obvious CIA front-company, Creative Associates International, Inc. (CAII), operating not only in Peshawar but now in Islamabad also it transpires – and a recent reflection of this was the sealing off of the road in Super Market [a stone throw away from the houses of senior Pakistani officials] last week right in front of a school!

Whatever the US embassy gives out or the terrified Pakistani leadership echoes, the reality is that there is a questionable and increasingly threatening US armed presence in Pakistan and this may be augmented soon by an ISAF/NATO presence. Incidentally, to add to the suspicions of the US presence, reports are coming in of around 3,000 Hummer vehicles, fully loaded, awaiting transportation from Port Qasim. Will some of these go to the Pentagon's assassination squads, who may take up residence in some of the barricaded Islamabad houses and with whom the present US commander in Afghanistan was directly associated? Ordinary officials at Pakistani airports have also been muttering their concerns over chartered flights flying in Americans whose entry is not recorded – even the flight crews are not checked for visas and so there is now no record-keeping of exactly how many Americans are coming into or going out of Pakistan. Incidentally the CAII's Craig Davis who was deported has now returned to Peshawar! And let us not be fooled by the cry that numbers reflect friendship since we know what numbers meant to Soviet satellites.

A large number of US armored carriers have arrived at Port Qasim. Here are the first exclusive pictures. This adds to increased activity of armed US ‘diplomats’ in the two cities of Islamabad and Peshawar and the construction of the world’s largest US embassy in Islamabad close to sensitive federal government departments. The PPP government and other Pakistani politicians are silently encouraging this expanded American role to counterbalance a powerful Pakistani military.

By Ahmed Quraishi

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan—Undercover armed Americans are swarming the Pakistani capital in the latest sign that the elected government has allowed Washington to dispatch what is believed to be a large number of American special operations agents and contractual security guards, including the infamous Blackwater private militia.

This comes at a time when whistleblowers within the government and the military are reporting the arrival of a large number of US Marines in Pakistan. Some reports put the figure at 1,000 US soldiers, much of whom are thought to be arriving as part of the massive expansion of the US Embassy and four consulates across the country. While the US embassy continues to deny this, new buildings are under construction to house security teams. The expanded US embassy is supposed to become the largest US embassy in the world.

Above is an exclusive picture taken by a source at the entrance of Port Qasim near Karachi, showing US Hummers being transported out of the facility. According to the source, the shipment was not destined for Afghanistan. The picture was taken on Aug. 19, 2009 and being released here for the first time.

The latest evidence of the growing American military presence in the Pakistani capital is the arrest of four Americans carrying automatic weapons in a part of the Pakistani capital that foreigners seldom visit.

The four were arrested in Sector G-9 of Islamabad in the evening of Saturday, Aug. 29.

A police picket stopped two cars carrying the four Americans who refused to explain why they were carrying sophisticated automatic weapons in the capital city. Diplomats are not supposed to carry weapons because their security is the responsibility of the host government, and security guards are not supposed to be carrying weapons outside the embassy except during official assignments. The four were taken to a police station for interrogation but were released when two retired Pakistani army officers showed up and threatened police officers of dire consequences.

The police established that the four Americans carried diplomatic status and were part of the US embassy staff.

When I called today US embassy spokesperson Richard Snelsire about the incident, he refused to comment and referred me to the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pakistani police.

“Do US diplomats normally carry weapons?” I asked.

Mr. Snelsire’s reply was, “Only if they are permitted” to do so by the Pakistani government. But he avoided commenting on the incident or explaining whether the four were diplomats.

The spokesman’s reaction confirms suspicions that private US security guards are active in Pakistan. For obvious reasons these guards do not come under the cover of US Department of State employees in Pakistan. This could be one reason why US embassy spokesperson declined comment on the story since the presence and the activities of the four armed men might be beyond the purview of the US embassy in Islamabad.

There is strong evidence that the private US mercenary army, Blackwater, has also established office in the Pakistani capital. Authorities have received several complaints of ill mannered military-type westerners misbehaving or recklessly driving by.

The Pakistani capital was the scene of at least two incidents recently where armed American diplomats verbally and physically assaulted Pakistani police officers. In one case, newspapers called for expelling an armed US diplomat who cursed and swore at the host country. The Pakistani government, which is known to be pro-American, refused to take action.

US HIRING PAK GOVT. SERVANTS AS CONSULTANTS

The Americans appear to have recruited a large number of retired Pakistani army officers, in addition to quietly hiring Pakistani civil servants without making any of this public. A famous government university professor in Islamabad who is active in US media campaigns against Pakistan’s nuclear program has also been hired as a consultant. Government employees cannot offer their services to foreign governments but this is happening now under an increasingly weak Pakistani state and government.

Who Is Inviting US Military

To Pakistan

There are indications that the PPP government and some other politicians, like Nawaz Sharif, are encouraging the Americans to get involved in domestic issues especially as a hedge against a powerful Pakistani military. Politicians are aware they have led the country to a national failure on all fronts since the general elections in February 2008. The public mood is gradually turning against them. This has stoked the rumor mill about disgruntlement within the Pakistani military regarding the failures of the politicians.

Washington is spending nearly one billion dollars to expand its Islamabad embassy. On completion, the US embassy in Islamabad will become the largest in the world. Interestingly, both the government, led by President Zardari, and the opposition, led by Nawaz Sharif, refuse to question why Washington has been granted exceptional concessions to construct an imperial-size embassy and how at least 18 acres of the most expensive real state in the capital has been handed over to the Americans for this purpose at throwaway prices.

What is happening in Pakistan .. Are our Security Forces being paralyzed by the joint collaboration of Devils and Corrupt Politicians or US is setting up a Regional Intel HQ in Islamabad to carry out covert ops inside the neighboring countries(Iran,China,India) .
There is a lot of panic in the public regarding this BlackWater thing .
Our agencies should have an eye over their activities .

. .
Its making many Pakistani nervous what going on between US and Pakistan government. anybody knows what really going on and put some light on it.

.
well Omer here in Isl now u will find too many foreigners , though i havent seen any one with weapons, God knows whats going on

My guess is there is some kind of plan to get Bin Laden and associates based on concrete intelligence. Seems they are on run and CIA narrowing down circle in collaboration with military.

I think American's understand the THIN & SENSITIVE LINE which could turn Pakistani Military leadership against in a matter of seconds. They would avoid best not to cross that line.

Pakistan has always worked with U.S. like this...."we agree to allow you to conduct operations BUT NEVER CROSS SET LIMITS". Seems the era of Badaber joint operations back in 1960's has again come with fight against different enemy.

One thing I couldn't understand is the face expression of COAS and other Pak Army officers at this meeting in Kabul. These pictures are at Flickr. See the first one. What are they asking him to sign??? Look at the face of clever American Gen. This General was replaced few months later.....I am sure our Army didn't like him. I recalled old days of Najeebullah (Afghan) who didn't recognize Durand Line and we MADE HIM SIGN THAT AGREEMENT TO RECOGNIZE IT. I think its a BACKLASH from AFGHANS who are now putting pressure on us using AMERICANS.

May Allah give our Army strength.

don't forget that embassies in countries with active war zones have diplomatic body guards. In Pakistan DSS agents (Diplomatic Security Service) work with ISI closely.

the Hummers could have been going to Afghanistan or even to the Pakistani military. If it was black water they would not be using such obvious vehicles like Hummers. They would use armored SUV's. And they defiantly would not get armored Hummers which is what is shown.
