Bismillah to be dropped from (Bangladesh) Constitution

Are you not Muslim enough and do you feel that Islam and terrorism is a same thing? If you are a Muslim then why should you vote against Islamic republic? :what:

Contradicting your self. One hand you are opposing Islamic republic while do not wish to drop Bismillah from constitution. :undecided:

Bye the way, if our constitution start with Bismillah and our state religion is Islam then we technically a Islamic republic. :azn:

Being a muslim, representing on behalf of majority would be definitely my pride. Islam and terrorism doesn't have any relation at all, those brain washed al-qaeda is created by the CIA's/indians/israeli zionists etc. We are indirectly an Islamic republic where upto 90% of us are muslim, so there is nothing much to lose. Constitution is nothing, where 90% is muslim. Infact majority of Bengali people in the whole world are muslim people (66%-70%), so where bengalism is dominated by the muslims too. There is nothing problem being a muslim and bengali, both are my pride.

But, i oppose this outcry about dropping bismillah would turn this country into a hindu state. This is a show-off being a lack of confidence of us.

What an approach by BD politicians , rather than focusing on Kids suffering from chronic hunger & malnutrition , increasing working conditions for workers , they are doing this sort of trash.

Dont put this info again about this level of poverty existed till the 90's. Hunger is now isolated problem at the north'est corners of Rangpur area, during the winter only. And, other parts of the country is now moving ahead with rapid growth (specially the easten part).

Drop 'Bismillah' from charter: Menon

Dhaka, Mar 25 (bdnews24.com) — Demanding that 'Bismillah' be dropped from the preamble of the constitution, Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon has said it will be contradictory to secularism if the charter is amended retaining Bismillah.

"Whatever has so far been done with Bismillah and the state religion has been done with a political motive," he told a discussion at Dhaka Reporters' Unity on Friday.

Menon, also a member of the ruling Grand Alliance, he said, "Islam itself doesn't say that there has to be a state religion."

Mentioning that the current government's aim is to restore the spirit of the 1972 constitution, Menon said, "Now it's time to return to the ethos of the Liberation War. If we really want to do that, it won't be wise to retain Bismillah."

Speaking on the occasion, Law Commission chairman M Shah Alam said, "Bismillah can be retained in a way that won't contradict secularism. The government and parliament should decide the matter."

He alleged that a vested quarter was committing misdeeds in the name of religion.

In Nov 1977, BNP founder Gen Ziaur Rahman through a military proclamation had amended the 1972 constitution and inserted the aforesaid terms in the preamble of the constitution.

In case of replacement of the present preamble with the 1972 one, 'Bismillahir--Rahmanir-Rahim' (In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the Merciful) is supposed to go.

The present government has taken initiatives to amend the constitution after the High Court repealed the Fifth Amendment brought by Ziaur Rahman.

In this connection, a special parliamentary committee headed by deputy leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury has been formed.

On Feb 9, committee co-chairman Suranjit Sengupta said, "We [committee members] have unanimously decided to restore the preamble of the 1972 constitution,"

Suranjit on Feb 11 said 'Bismillahir--Rahmanir-Rahim' will not be removed from the constitution.

Menon is acting weird. Being a respectable politician of Workers Party he should have been a bit more responsible.

.
To me personally, this effect on the constitution hold no value whatsoever. The only reason Awami League is even considering doing this is to instigate several divisions of the islamist parties. We have much more issues to worry about now.

Good move..being a muslim majority state they could have easily retained the word bismillah and could have added many other things but, they still think about the minority. and spirit of secularism. hats off the right minded secular bangladeshis.

why being a secular country India is using the pagan trinity god head in many places??? Is it not like oppressing the minorities...??? Even though christians also believe in trinity god but the gods are different but they say it is one not 3. But what about muslims and budhhists???

Rashed Khan Menon is a communist, he always have been. His father Abdul Jabber Khan was a Speaker of the Pakistan Parliament. Jabbar Khan expelled him from his house, and he survived with the secret handouts from his mother and elder sisters. He remained unelected for many years, but, somehow miraculously, he got elected in the last election.

He was wounded by a bullet during BNP time and the govt sent him for treatment to a foreign country. I hope, people will oust him from Parliament for saying ignorant things. But, of course, I would not like a bullet to pass through his heart for making such an arrogant remark. that would be too outrageous.

I will not waste my time explaining you what the emblem of India means. I will just point you out that there are actually 4 lions, not 3. One remains hidden from sight.

you are funny men, that has nothing to do with gods. its the amblem of the Ashok, the first person to have actually unified India. As far as buddhist go they have more regards for Ashok then the hindus themselves for the work he did for Buddhism.....
