US to patrol near East Sea islands illegal built by China

  • China's illegal land reclamation in the East Sea.

The paper said the patrols will come within 12 nautical miles of at least one of the islands.

Assistant Secretary of Defence for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs David B. Shear told the US Senate at a recent hearing that there haven’t been any patrols that close to a reclaimed island since 2012.

In May, a US Navy surveillance plane flew near three of the five Chinese-built islands but did not enter the 12-mile zones, and were warned eight times by Chinese Navy radio operators to leave the area.

Senator Antonio F. Trillanes IV, chairman of the national defence and security committee on October 12 welcomed the US patrol decision. He said in a telephone interview that the patrols are necessary and can help remove the bottleneck in the situation while not increasing tension in the region.

Officials in the Philippines said that they have been told of the planned patrols in the last several days. Filipino Secretary of Foreign Affairs Albert F.del Rosario said the US patrols will help maintain stability in the region.

“Failure to challenge false claims of sovereignty would undermine this order and lead China to the false conclusion that its claims are accepted as a fait accompli,” Mr. del Rosario said in a statement.

Earlier, in a report released on August 20, the US Defence Department accused China of increasing their land reclamation in the East Sea archipelago over recent months while intensifying patrols surrounding waters to assert its sovereignty claims.

The US’s report “Asia- Pacific Maritime Security Strategy” said China’s activities to build artificial islands in Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago surged nearly 50 percent compared to May. It stated that China’s latest activities outweighed other efforts in size and level of influence, promoting China’s more powerful presence in the East Sea.

US Secretary of Defence Ashton Carter affirmed that the US will “fly, sail, and operate wherever international law allows”.

We are already conducting live fire exercises around our islands. Once USN tries to patrol in our territorial waters, we will ram them or even open fire! Finally the waiting is over. We can finally use our ASBM and tactical nukes in combat!

.
USA is risking the lives of its sailors in the South China Sea.

Too bad, the politicians in Washington does not give a DAMN.

Ask ourselves the following questions: -

1. How much of US trade actually passed thru' South China Sea?

2. Has China ever interfere with the so-called Freedom of Navigation in the South China Sea?

3. In fact, the Tribunal has ruled that Artificial Islands have a 12NM sea border and so it USA purposely breaching the rule?

4. Is USA getting desperate? Tell me that all this provocations have NOTHING to do with the CURRENCY WAR which USA is losing since her greenback is not backed by GOLD ASSET?

China can either ignored these nonsense or send their land ships to RAM these warship if they get too close and let see what USA next response will be?

.
Billions are invested in these islands... this one prime real estate. Apart from hotels are resorts...there must be luxury villas for sale there. They all might go a top price in a week!
Who are the owners of the real estate and the resorts?

China is very aggressive now, all activity of China in East Sea of Vietnam is illegal based on ruling of PCA.:-)

U.S. says its forces will keep operating in South China Sea
By The Hague that invalidated its vast territorial claims in the South China Sea and did not take part in the proceedings brought by the Philippines.

China has repeatedly blamed the United States for stirring up trouble in the South China Sea, a strategic waterway through which more than $5 trillion of trade moves annually.

China, Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam all have rival claims, of which China's is the largest.

The United States has conducted freedom of navigation patrols close to Chinese-held islands, to Beijing's anger, while China has been bolstering its military presence there.

Meeting Yuan Yubai, commander of the Chinese North Sea Fleet, Richardson "underscored the importance of lawful and safe operations in the South China and elsewhere professional navies operate", the U.S. Navy said.

"The U.S. Navy will continue to conduct routine and lawful operations around the world, including in the South China Sea, in order to protect the rights, freedoms and lawful uses of sea and airspace guaranteed to all. This will not change."

Richardson said he was supporting of the deepening of relations between the two navies.

"But I will be continuously reassessing my support conditioned on continued safe and professional interactions at sea. In this area we must judge each other by our deeds and actions, not just by our words," he added.

The United States has complained that Chinese aircraft and ships have performed "unsafe" maneuvres while shadowing U.S. ships and planes, particularly in the South China Sea.

Speaking in Sydney on Wednesday, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden assured key ally Australia there would be no retreat from Washington's pivot to the Asia-Pacific region, regardless of who wins November's presidential election.

China’s illegal activities in East Sea must be ended: FM spokesman
Illegal activities that have been continuously deployed by China cannot change the fact that Vietnam has sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Hai Binh on June 24.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Hai Binh.

Binh made the statement while fielding queries from reporters concerning information from Chinese media over China’s construction on and plans related to the two archipelagos.

China has continued building and operating a number of facilities on Truong Sa, including a hospital on the Chu Thap (Fiery Cross) Reef and a farm on Xubi (Subi) Reef, while its state-run shipping company COSCO said it plans to launch tours to Hoang Sa.

The FM Spokesman said: “Vietnam has repeatedly expressed its clear and consistent stance on the subject. Vietnam has indisputable sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos. Either illegal construction and use of facilities on Truong Sa or the arrangement of tours to Hoang Sa carried out by China seriously violate Vietnam’s sovereignty over the two archipelagoes.”

“Vietnam strongly objects to these activities. Vietnam requests China to respect the country’s sovereignty over the two archipelagoes, to immediately put an end to these violations without similar repetition in the future, and to stringently comply with the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), practically contributing to maintaining peace and security in the East Sea,” Binh stated.

Binding? Like the 16 decisions that were laughed at before? Was it the time Britain ignored it? The time Japan paid no attention to it? Or was it when Russia didn't bother responding? I officially rule that you are stupid and must pay me $100 dollars for wasting my time. It is binding since I run the S10 Super Court of Justice.

Pay up!

Tokyo seeks to pressure Beijing on South China Sea ruling

Published July 16, 2016 7:36pm
By BEN DOOLEY, GMA News
Tokyo raised pressure on Beijing at an Asia-Europe summit Saturday to respect an international tribunal's ruling that dismissed its claims to much of the South China Sea.

At a retreat outside the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told the assembled leaders that the rule of law was "a universal principle that the international community must firmly maintain," according to Japan's Jiji Press.

"I strongly hope the parties to the dispute comply with the award and lead to a peaceful solution of the dispute in South China Sea," he said.

The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague on Tuesday ruled that there was no legal basis for Beijing's claims to much of the South China Sea, which are embodied in a "nine-dash line" that dates from 1940s maps and stretches close to other countries' coasts.

The case was brought by the Philippines but the ruling has proved a boon to Tokyo, which is embroiled in a separate territorial dispute of its own with Beijing and vies with it for influence across Asia.

China boycotted the PCA hearings, saying the court had no jurisdiction, and has reacted furiously, vowing to ignore the ruling and arguing that it misinterprets international law.

It also said the subject should not be brought up at the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in the Mongolian capital.

But despite Chinese objections, the EU also weighed in on the subject, with President Donald Tusk telling reporters that the grouping "will continue to speak out in support of upholding international law," adding that it had "full confidence" in the PCA and its decisions.

"It's not so easy to agree with our Chinese partners when it comes to this issue" he said. "Our talks were difficult, tough, but also promising."

'Hyping up'

The comments by Abe and Tusk on Saturday followed a blitz of meetings between the Japanese leader and officials from around the region, including his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Philippine Foreign Secretary Perfecto Yasay, on the summit sidelines as he sought to build consensus on the issue.

Both countries have competing claims with Beijing in the strategically vital South China Sea, where tensions have mounted over the Asian giant's construction of artificial islands capable of supporting military operations and its claims on the region's marine resources.

The new government in Manila has promised not to "taunt or flaunt" the verdict in the case, which was brought by the previous administration of Benigno Aquino, and its public comments were less forceful than Abe's.

According to a Philippines foreign ministry statement, Yasay told him the decision provided "a legal basis to move forward," and Manila was studying it "very carefully."

In Abe's meeting with Phuc, the two leaders agreed that the tribunal's ruling should be observed, and Abe offered to increase cooperation on building Vietnam's maritime law enforcement capabilities, Japanese foreign ministry spokesman Yasuhisa Kawamura told AFP.

The Japanese prime minister also brought his argument directly to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang during a heated 30-minute meeting Friday.

Kawamura described the exchange as "frank and candid" and Chinese state media accounts described the Chinese leader telling Abe that Japan should "stop hyping up and interfering" in the dispute.

Beijing had hoped to use the ASEM summit -- official theme "Partnership for the Future through Connectivity" -- as an opportunity to showcase its global initiatives, such as the One Belt, One Road programme, an ambitious plan to build infrastructure projects across the Eurasian region.

China has sought to assert its claims in the South China Sea by building a network of artificial islands capable of supporting military operations, and this week reiterated its right to declare an Air Defense Identification Zone in the area, which would demand civilian flights submit to the authority of its military.

While the summit's final communique made no specific mention of the South China Sea, it said that leaders "reaffirmed their commitment" to maritime security and settling disputes according to the UN Convention on the Law of Sea. —Agence France-Presse

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang held talks in Ulan Bator Friday, days after an international tribunal ruled Beijing’s claims in the South China Sea have no basis in international law.

Abe stressed the need to resolve South China Sea conflicts in a peaceful manner under the rule of law.

The Chinese government has rejected the closely watched ruling, saying in a statement that it is “null and void and has no binding force.” The Japanese government has urged China to accept it.

The leaders met on the sidelines of a two-day summit of Asian and European leaders in the Mongolian capital, where Abe has pledged to emphasize the importance of the peaceful resolution of disputes under the rule of law.
