I don't think it has any thing to do with skin. there is large number of South Indian in delhi. non get such treatment based on skin color.

Perhaps they did wrong doings.But racism is a reality in our national capital.Even fair South Indians dont spared in Delhi.

This is not racism. They were beaten for misbehaving/teasing women on the metro. An Indian or a chinese or anyone would have suffered the same fate. People get beaten up on the streets for teasing women all the time. I am not saying it is right but giving it a racial angle is stupid. No one goes around beating people on a crowded metro for being black.

I don't condone this kind of mob "justice" at all but

Multitude of factors:
1. I think it is to do with a long history of colonialism. From the Mughals to Britishers. In both the cases the ruling class were of a different skin shade than the average Indians toiling everywhere.

2. Coupled with the fact that since we live in a tropical region, for thousands of years the poor people did manual jobs out in the sun while the rich did not...consequently forming a glaring difference in skin colour, so the the being of lighter shade started getting associated with being rich and therefore a desirable trait while being darker implied the opposite.

3. Being 'different' is good. Same reason why Caucasians get a tan, so that they look different from the regular pale white average crowd.

Though I have to agree with some other posters here. There is a reason why Africans are looked down upon. Its because a large number of Nigerians are in India and are constantly involved in drug crimes, drug trafficking and other socially undesirable actions. Consequently the people have started associating presence of Africans as problem causing. Basically Nigerians have spoiled it for every African.

I can confirm this, back in the day I've had some "dealings" with those guys too

there was another ugly incident of a mob beating some Africans in Goa some time ago, but again it was them who started misbehaving and fighting with locals but eventually got outnumbered and the mob had a real go at them.

Also true about us being an extremely racist society, sab ko apne neighbouors se kuch problem hai, "yeh muslim hai, vo bengali hai, hum rajput hai.." ..even within their own religion people find these divisive regional things, damn shame and fuk'n stupid *** mentality which I hope will go soon, end of the day we are one people, Indians.
