BD almost catches up with India in GDP PPP per capita

@bluesky

Thanks for your previous post. So please tell us why do you think that BD is doomed? In fact like my dear friend Brofessor sb (@RiazHaq) you should be projecting tough times ahead for India.

Regards

If BD opens up its economy further and keeps its progress in import substitution PPP will grow further.

However PPP is an arbitrary measure whilst GDP per capita is the true measure that all economist relies on and is the basis of sovereign rating.

BD has exceeded India but that is irrelevant, we need to keep our focus on our true peers such as indonesia and seek to replicate their success.

Agreed and this is actually a reflection of the enormous strides that BD has made in import substitution over the last decade.

Things made in BD are cheaper than imports and so that pushed the PPP numbers up as the IMF has confirmed.

Now, tell us why BD is not doomed. A new chapter starts at a fair election.

There will be no fair election unless SHW is back. Either case, SHW is back and BD is not doomed.

Now you till me why BD is doomed?

Its an IMF forecast

Almost all Indians on the forum now no longer trust IMF after your revelation that Gita Gopinath influences it

We urge the Indian Govt to do the same and follow economic musings of PDF resident economist
Whats there to comment either way, bangladesh's per capita income becomes twice of India for all we care. Its population will not enjoy imaginary stats. India's 'prosperity' so far so to speak is very well visible in the form of consumption data, infrastructure, etc.

Dude, PPP is not obtained from any government statistic but a measure of the relative cost of a basket of goods and services across countries.

The average BD’shi has caught up with an Indian in living standards, although Indians still have greater accumulated wealth. That is why for some time Indians will still have higher consumption figures across a range of goods and services.

tell the truth. this is shocking. at the same time, I noticed that it was not just GDP per capita. On many other indicators. BD also exceeds India.

What happened in India?

These buggers still do not understand the difference between wealth and income.

They think an imbecile with a lottery win should have same consumption as a bank manager.

Thanks, both of you. I was quite intrigued by the fact that the offtake of a lot of "middle class" goods such as cars and two wheelers were so much lower in BD as compared to IND or even Pak inspite of higher GDP in the former. This seems to be a good explanation.

Thick as mince some of them.

Economics is a complex subject that spans many disciplines and this area is beyond their limited abilities.

PPP or not, it won't matter for anyone even if it becomes double of India, consumption is a component of GDP, so if Bangladesh lags behind in consumption then its high per capita income stats make no sense.

India's per capita can rise if they stop investing on Space, Nuclear, Defense, Diplomacy and other R&D, just like in Bangladesh. But the Indians have different plans, that is to be world power and hence their government is investing as per people's wish.
