Battle of Lepanto. Guns vs Arrows. Europe vs Asia.

. .
turks were predominantly armed with cannons and guns though

if you want an actual battle that proved the effectiveness of gunpowder over traditional archery that would be the battle of chaldiran:

But they did not understand physics the way Europeans did (thanks Galileo). Europeans used ballistics and hit pretty much every time. Turks either shot up into the sky or shot straight missing targets. Also European guns were far more accurate due to machinery (thanks Gutenberg).

.
This was a combined much larger Europeon fleet. Not long before this Ottomans defeated a massive fleet at Preveza. Also this loss didn't stop much as Ottomans still managed to go all the way to the French coast etc.

Is it true that this loss was primary reason Ottomans could colonize americas like other European powers? I read it somewhere don't know if it's correct.

Ottoman use of firearms in mass was before Europeans. Firearms and gunpowder moved from east to west and Ottomans were one of the most prominent users and first adopters

No, not really. Americas were not known and Ottomans controlled the most important links and routes in the world. Navy in Indian ocean, Persian gulf, Mediterranean, Black Sea and complete control in most of these except Indian ocean where they had many battles with Portuguese.

Going to americas or through other routes was a complete gamble for Europe. Today its like investing all your money in a crypto currency that you have no idea will be adopted worldwide or investing it in gold which has gone up nearly continuously.

Gunpowder was brought to Europe from China by the Mongols before ottomans existed

That is what I'm talking about... It came from east to west. East being China. It was used by Mongols, Timurids, Chinese etc, however, Ottomans were one of the first to use it widely in great numbers and in great effect. I never said Ottomans brought it...

Ever heard of the term "3 Gunpowder Empires"?

Chinese invention, like some others, put to best use by Muslims.

The OP is just butthurt against Turkey and is happy about the Battle of Lepanto.

Galileo was 7 years old at the time of the battle of Lepanto. You don't know what you're talking about as witnessed in this and many other threads.

Physics has existed since man started using the wheel. Chinese invented the gunpowder but someone else discovered how to kill someone with it rather than use it for fireworks.

If not for the cultural & informational exchange with the Muslims of Spain there would not have been any Galileo. I know it's hard to accept but it's reality.

Eastern guns were crap. They could hardly shoot 10 meters. Gutenberg's machinery made guns smooth and accurate. European guns can shoot 100 meters by the 1600s.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about.

I present to you the Big Boss.....the Dardanelles Gun or the Great Turkish Bombard, produced in 1464.

Probably a replica^

The Big Boss turned the walls of Constantinople into melted cheese.....was still in use 340 years later in 1807, where the British forces took 28 casualties from its bombardments. Range: 1 and a half mile......10x more than the guns produced in the 1600's by your own admission.

You're right...."Eastern", like in Chinese guns....couldn't produce such a thing even in the 1600's....the 3 Gunpowder Empires were way ahead of you guys, don't lump them along with your pathetic Ming & Qing Dynasties.

Your lack of knowledge on this thread is quite evident......your negative ratings is another way of knowing how little you actually know concerning threads of PDF. Run along troll.

Big but inaccurate. European guns had 10 times the range. That's why Turks lost at Vienna.

Lost of Vienna wasn't because of guns.

You can keep trolling but you inferiority complex and lack of actual historical knowledge is already well known to most.
Big but inaccurate.

???

Did you stand in front of the guns to see their inaccuracy??? How can a inaccurate gun cost 28 casualties after more than 300 years??
