Bangladesh’s first metro train completes test run

I ask you again. Do you really happen to live in London. If not you are just assuming things. And if you really live in London, you are just falsifying the speed of commuter trains. Please, be very honest about what you say and do not insist on something impractical that shows your mean ego.

Now, enjoy reading the citation from the Internet. It says of an average speed of 33 kph speed for a London commuter train. I am not talking here about the medium distance trains.

.

"The average speed on the Underground is 20.5 mph (33.0 km/h).[9] Outside the tunnels of central London, many lines' trains tend to travel at over 40 mph (64 km/h) in the suburban and countryside areas".

So, no doubt, you live in London. Better you change your flag to BD and Barisal.

No I live 50 kms away from London but travel regularly into London.

Why are you repeatedly questioning the speeds on the London underground? It seems a strange thing to do even if you are certain you are correct.

Like I say the electric underground trains are already doing 40km/h before they have even completely left the station and so why would they not be capable of going at 100km/h when the distance between stations is 2-3km?

The maximum acceration of a London underground train is 1.3m/s^2 and so using the below physics equation of motion:

v^2 = u^2 + 2as, with v being final velocity, u initial velocity, a the acceleration and s the distance.

Let us say the train accelerates at 1 m/s^2 on average for the first 1000m between stations.

v^2 = 0^2 + 2 X 1 X 1000
V^2 = 2000
v = Square Root(2000) = 45m/s which is way more than 100km/h.

If you do not believe these speeds then just move on as it is not worth debating further.

Do not give stupid arguments as if you are a genius like Newton. I said it is impossible for a Metro Rail in Dhaka to achieve 100 kph as it is not possible for London Subway.

These lines are very zigzag and the stations are very near to each other. Go to the first coach and watch the speedometer from behind the glass in the Operator's Room to see the accelerating and maximum speed.

I have sent you the link to London train speeds. It is only 30 kph+ something. But, as usual, you are unwilling to learn from the truth. Do not keep on putting false arguments.

You remain as shameless as Hasina Bibi without an iota of shame, always talking lies. Please get rid of Hasina mind.

Where are you going with this? You are ruining the thread with your pointless argument.

Most people understand that 100kph refers to the trains max speed capability. Someone just showed you that Turkish trains run at up to 120kph. This is the normal way to describe a trains ability.

BD bought a reasonably specced train, what are you moaning about?

That train is fully capable of going to 100kph within a 2km distance - but obviously the train authority will choose not to do so.

If a Toyota can drive at 100mph, but there's too much traffic for that - does that make the Toyota less of a car?

Why are you talking the opposite? Am I ruining this thread or ignorant guys like you from the BAL? I just said the average speed of a metro train cannot be more than 40 kph but the newspaper story claimed it will run at 100 kph. So, I said no because it will cause accidents every minute. Tell me where is my mistake.

No metro railway runs at 100 kph. London metro runs at about 30 kph. Any comments here?

Before you talk stupid and ruin the thread, I ask you to read the news at the top.

"The Metropolitan line can reach speeds of 62 mph (100 km/h)"

Happy?

The electric train crosses 500 metres with six coaches at the Diabari depot

The country’s first electric train completed its maiden test run in Dhaka's Uttara on Tuesday.

It crossed 500 metres with six coaches during the trial run at the Diabari depot around 12 noon at a speed of 5km per hour, according to media reports.

A driver from the Kawasaki-Mitsubishi Consortium drove the Mass Rapid Transit Line-6 (MRT-6) train to the unloading zone from a workshop. When commissioned, the trains will run at a speed of 100km/hr.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader virtually joined the event organized by Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd.

According to the minister, the average progress of the project is 63.2% while the progress of the construction work from Uttara to Agargaon section, being implemented under the first phase, is 84.9%.

The minister stated that the progress of the second phase (Agargaon to Motijheel) was 59.7% while the overall progress in procurement of electrical and mechanical system, rolling stock, and depot equipment was 54.4%.

The project is being implemented at a cost of Tk22,000 crore.

Once operational, a train will be carrying 60,000 people every hour, significantly reducing travel time. The route will have 16 stations.

The first shipment of metro rail coaches from Japan had arrived in Dhaka on April 21.

The Kawasaki-Mitshubishi Consortium of Japan started the construction of the 24 sets of the metro train with six coaches each, and another rescue train for the MRT-6 project in April 2019, under a Tk2,870 crore deal signed in 2017. The deal is valid until December next year.

The first train was in April last year and the second in September. The coaches are made of reusable aluminium alloy and bulletproof glass.

Besides, the compartments, weighing 22-28 tons, are about three metres in width and 20 metres in length, and have a long-line seating arrangement. Two of the six coaches are air-conditioned and each coach has four doors for passengers.

Also, regenerative electric brakes are being used in the metro trains which will be operated using an automated radio communication system, even without any driver.

A total of 13.80km of the viaduct has been installed with the rail track installation inside the depot already completed.

The government hopes to begin operation on the Uttara-Agargaon route by the end of this year, but it may face delay due to the latest Covid-19 upsurge across the country.
Cheers. BD is in news once again for good reason . Congratulations.

Again, you are assuming wrong things. A train that stops at 2 or 3 km cannot gain an 80 kph speed, although, the motor/engine may have that much power.

80Kph speed can be attained if a train is a medium or long distance, say, if it runs out of Istanbul/Ankara to a distance of 50 or 100 km, and the station to station distance is more than 5 km.

Now, instead of going superb high-speed, please enjoy a video on the Japanese trains run by Steam Locomotives.

I didn't say that, it is in the news I found with a Google search 。

I searched the Chinese webpage, the fastest subway in China is 160KMH, which is the highest subway operating speed in the world, and the train itself is definitely designed to be higher speed than 160. This one is connected to the airport, the distance between stations is large,。 when the distance between stations is 2KM, the operation speed is 80KMH, the average speed is more than 35kmh (including the stopping time).

So everyone is right, the speed is set according to the distance. Longer distances are faster, shorter distances are slower.

about the photo that i posted was copy from weki😅

Another photograph for @TOTUU. This is a picture of a monorail train that runs on one single rail line.

I hereby present another type of monorail in Japan. It is a hanging Monorail.
Monorail is very suitable for cities with dense buildings, and only few cities in China have monorail.😬
More Chinese cities are opting for subways .

Congrats BD fans - what are the future metro plans in BD?

Underground Subway for Dhaka already under works with Korean assistance... Chittagong is the only other city that will ever get a metro.. it is in the conceptual phase yet though.. wouldn't expect real progress before 2025..

News from 2019 ;

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed him to start the feasibility study of the mass rapid transit (MRT) lines, and he has asked all concerned to begin it soon.

Of them, the length of the MRT line-1 will be of 26.5km, from Kalurghat to Airport, while that of MRT line-2 13.5km from City Gate to Nimtala, and the length of the MRT line-3 will be of 14.5km, from Oxygen crossing to Firingibazar and Panchliash to AK Khan.

The project cost is estimated at Tk 1,545 crore. (1.8 Billion USD).

Congrats BD fans - what are the future metro plans in BD?

@DalalErMaNodi gave you updates on future Metro plans in Chittagong.

For Dhaka, MRT-6 line is nearing completion (video included for one section). Next will be MRT-5, 4, 3, 2, 1 etc.

Soil testing and piling for MRT-5 is ongoing, majority of this line will be dug underground.

Bangladesh is already using the world's largest tunnel borer machine to dig tunnels under the Karnaphuli river in Chittagong, which may be re-used, similar to what was done in Mumbai for their recent metro line.

. .
I really hope comprehensive security measures are taken to ensure round the clock protection of the MRT's rail corridor.
We can't have our useless masses tresspassing and vandalising infrastructure.
We could use drones for round the clock surveillance of the entire line.

There was some discussion here in this old thread.

We can't have our useless masses tresspassing and vandalising infrastructure.
We could use drones for round the clock surveillance of the entire line.

I am sure they will have extensive CCTV coverage to catch vandals. Metro Rail is supposed to have its own dedicated police force.
