What's new

Bangladesh’s authoritarian shift

But i hope BNP bring new leadership well they have to at this point.
Indeed , if they can not do that , then the vacuum will be filled with any new party that hold the heritage of right wing politics ..

And in future AL will either be replaced or will change their chetona policy that has started after 2001 Jamat BNP alliance .Because literary only less than 5 % Bangladeshi Muslim practice chetona cult and chetona cult is actually the invention of CPB .

As long as AL leaders understand the reality ( that their vote bank is not influenced by CPB chetona cult ) it's better for them . Otherwise after Hasina , they will be doomed too .

Politics and religion should always remain separate.
I respect your different opinion , but still I believe that if you want to introduce a solid democracy, if you want to call it democracy , they must have the chance as their fair share , because no one is bound to vote for secular parties only , so it's necessary to flourish human rights and freedom of speech . By suppressing religious politics and it's voice you can not establish democratic society where freedom of speech is predominant! So IMHO , everyone should have their fair share..

But a moderate Muslim party should not use religious sentiment against the like minded parties using a specific cult like opportunist Islamic party , who prefer practicing hypocrisy over religious politics , and love to agitate people using their deceiving appearance and costume . So actually other than hypocrites ( Munafiq) , everyone should have their fair share in politics .

Trust me when I say this but almost all of the Bangladeshi members here, and in our country alike, would not mind a functioning and efficient BNP. If BNP someday goes beyond Khaleda and Tareq and installs young educated leaders at its helm, all of us would be the first one to support them. Nobody here has any bias against BNP and nobody gives a rat's ar$e if the nuclear plant or submarine is procured by AL or them. As long as a party works for the interest of the country, trust me nobody cares.

I understand that the above sentiment is hard for many Bangladeshis to grasp because we are a politically-polarized nation. However, we need to see things from a more neutral perspective.

As for PDF, there is generally a negative mindset about BNP because visibly they have no outstanding achievements thus far. This absolutely doesn't mean that BNP will remain in the gutters forever. There might be a resurgence, sooner or later, and BNP might start doing really well due to its new proficient leadership. So all power to them. But in this current scenario, we need to support who we have as a leader and hope that she manages to put the country in the right trajectory.

The Awami League turned Bangladesh into a dictatorship long ago. First, it destroyed the BNP. Second, it's going after JI using 1971 as an excuse. The Awami League is literally murdering its opponent in the guise of "justice."

You think it is wise right now to be openly anti-India when BD economy and military is not yet strong enough?

BD fell behind massively due to having started 24 years after India in economic and military development and so has had less time to build itself up compared to India.

Having good trade relations with India will actually help BD have leverage over India. The transit that BD is providing(although I would like the Indians to pay much more for this) will mean that Indians get used to this as a new normal and BD could always cut this off in the future if it does not like their behaviour.
Also by giving India transit they have agreed to allow hydroelectric imports from Bhutan and Nepal, which will give cheap and clean electricity for BD. Without this BD will almost certainly have been forced to build more polluting coal fired power stations. The other bonus is that it builds relations between BD and these small Himalayan states which can only be good for BD.

There are a few Indian-*** kickers in AL but Hasina is fundamentally a BD nationalist and she is just doing what she thinks is required to make BD economically and militarily strong. Economy looks like it is ticked off and we are waiting to see what she will do as regards military - currently BAF is the only real worry on the military front.

PS - Are you aware that India has in the last fiscal become another billion US dollar export market for BD?
Exports have hit 1.25 US billion dollars and it has been growing around 40% for each of the last 3 years. India may be poor but it's sheer numbers of people mean that within 5-10 years it could become as large a market as Germany or maybe even the US.

Yes please bring that one mistake BNP made every time. Any time i say anything against BAL you guys will talk about electricity.

Trust me next BNP government will be lot more smart. Just look at dhaka mayor candidates of bnp. Both educated in usa..both younger generation and one of them went to Georgetown university in usa. Things have changed stop bringing past all the time.

Foreign educated politcal candidates in third world countries tend to be corrupt manics. African leader can be quoted, even our dear hasina - in her hay days she really corrupt
At least hasina has become smarter the other one khaleda has not changed.

Valid points. And i understand bd is still very weak and need another 10 to 15 years of 7 plus growth rate.

African countries are not good example. They tend to screw up everything even they have huge natural resources.
