Bangladesh won’t get commercial supply of China vaccine soon, not before December says ambassador

Chinese vaccine is not up the mark and of low efficiency. China initially said human trial was free but later backtracked and asked money when Bangladesh started negotiation with India. Due to that Chinese vaccine was not taken. Now the vaccine is ordered to keep some other option open.
So, BD everything wants free of cost. It should have negotiated the price with China when the latter asked BD to bear the expenses for the human trial.

Instead, it started showing love for Indian medicine. Is it supposed to be free, too? Now, India withheld the supply, and BD again going back to China at the cost of thousands of lives.

So many BD flip-flops. Do you think it is smart in the international arena? Why do you think Chinese medicine bad when there are only a few cases of daily contamination there?

Anyway, because of BD nature of the flip-flops, the Chinese vaccines will not reach BD before the end of this year and in the meantime, many thousands of people would be dying.
It's pressure tactic by China. 2 days ago they threaten BD to stay away from Quad, 27 days before they asked BD not to let US/Japan investing into their infrastructure, 7 months back they asked BD to refrain commenting on India-china conflict etc etc..... If BD allow BRI through it and let China take control of it's infrastructure 9like Pakistan), medicine will flow in and so does Money (at the cost of freedom through).
If you think it is a pressure tactic of China, can you tell us why BD also did not do the same with China like GIVE US FREE BUTTER, otherwise, we join QUAD?

Do not please imagine something like a small kid and make up things. You are trying to save your benevolent govt in BD for nothing.

Govt writes to China for 4-5 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine

Govt writes to China for 4-5 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine

Bangladesh government has proposed to buy four-five crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine by December from China, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque.

"We have made a special request to China, so they phase out a plan for the vaccine delivery starting from June/July instead of December," the minister said in a press briefing at the state guest house Padma on Tuesday.

Responding to reporters, he said that vaccine layout can be planned only after we get the Chinese government's response to the proposal.

About the 5 lakh doses of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine gifted by China, the minister said, "We will use that keeping in mind the availability of the second doses."

Earlier on Monday, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming announced that 5 lakh doses of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine will reach Bangladesh on 12 May as a "special gift" and said his country will stand with Bangladesh in the anti-pandemic cooperation.

“I got the approval from the Bangladesh government on the 30th of April, the last day of April. The beginning of May is the May Day holiday in China. So, you can imagine how wholeheartedly the embassy and my colleagues in China were working to secure these 500,000 vaccines to be available in two days from today,” he said.

In unusually candid remarks, Jiming mentioned how dithering by Bangladesh prevented efforts to explore the “possibility of commercial supply in various ways”.

Jiming mentioned that he “offered this kind gesture of the Chinese government” to give “some gift vaccines to Bangladeshi people as early as Feb 3 this year and it took three months for the Bangladesh government to approve it”.

“I hope that the Bangladesh government will be more effective, especially when we are talking about some real challenges like pandemic.”
“Right now, I can say that I will do my best for the commercial purchase.”
South Asian countries and their indecisions. A poor vulnerable country like Bangladesh bickering over such an issue, instead of trying to get as much vaccines as they can from anyone available, given their vulnerability and the everything they have to lose if covid waves hit them like the one we see now in India. Bangladesh should learn from countries like Vietnam how to a government has to act fast, be decisive and organised when dealing with such issues.
we can only hope they wont be hit by the covid type of variant we saw in India before this vaccine arrive. Since if that happens it wont wrecked the country's economy and society far more than anything we saw in India, since they have even less medical/health capacity to handle a covid wave/crisis compared to India.

India variant is already present in BD as the border has been very open to both trade and tourism till just a few weeks.

Talk of an explosion of cases like in India is alarming and all the evidence points to something completely different happening:

BD's only real problem is that India messed up and so not exporting the AstraZeneca doses that it promised to BD - should be 5 million a month till it reaches the 30 million contracted. If they resume supplies as estimated by SII by late May/early June then the current vaccine emergency for BD would be over. Remember vast majority of BD'shis are under 50 and slim/healthy and so the country can "live with" higher daily cases than somewhere like the UK with its older and fatter population.

Russia can supply 4 million Sputnik doses on emergency basis if the dumb BD government stops trying to haggle over the reasonable 10 US dollar per shot price which is standard. Also Russia is ready to licence BD to produce 10s of millions of doses this year and next locally.

I personally would not be using a Chinese vaccine where protection from death is only 80% when you are also using AstraZeneca and soon Sputnik where it is in the high-90s. It will not only destroy confidence in just the Chinese vaccine but also the others when we see lots of vaccinated people still dying due to relatively low efficacy of Chinese vaccine.

You make some good points. However, i disagree with your last point. Bangladesh is not a developed country or an industrialised one like say Russia/china etc so Bangladesh doesn't have the luxury to be picky with the vaccines they can get or take their time in doing so. They should get any vaccine available to them. You saying any talk of a covid wave in Bangladesh is just false alarm, is wrong. After all, even the Indians were claiming the same thing just a few months ago. yet look at what happened to them, now they are regretting their complacency and not taking earlier measures they should have taken late last year which would have prevented such a catastrophic situation. You guys have far too much to lose in case there's a covid wave in Bangladesh, since you are still a very poor super populous country, so you guys are prone to such an eventuality. Moreover, your system wont be able to cope with such a wave. So getting all the help/vaccines you can should have been the priority of your government.
Beggars cant be choosers to be honest.

Sorry but you need to understand WHY India is in this position.

Modi claimed "victory" over Covid-19 in January and then allowed a "free-for-all". Even when thousands a day were suffocating to death outside hospitals in car parks in April and early this month, they were still having mass religious gatherings, voting in elections and even cricket matches!

BD has not and will never do that till it has at least 20-25% of it's most vulnerable vaccinated and only then it will probably not allow mass events like religious gatherings and sporting fixtures till it is confident that some kind of "herd immunity" has been reached, unlocking stage by stage and checking the impact of each like the UK is now doing.

Only thing that BD has in common with India is that it is just as poor and in the same region. It is a unitary state where the central government rules over one dominant ethnicity(80%+) and not like a multi-ethnic country like India with dozens of ethnic groups and power shared between the central government and the dozens of states.

What do they expect? There's hardly enough supply for the worlds developing countries to cover priority needs like medical staff and research groups with Western suppliers hoarding vaccines for themself beyond critical needs. While NSA bots and other U.S. regime propaganda mouthpieces are mouthing off about Chinese vaccines, exactly because their effectiveness was known and proven, everyone knew commercial demand and backlogs for Chinas vaccines are full. China is still cutting into domestic supply to help out developing nations to stay afloat. Bangladesh took months to approves usage, where was China suddenly going to pulll out these vaccines from without prior notice?

Is this what they(China) have exported already or is this the sum of the agreements so far?

As for jabbing health workers in BD with these 500,000 doses it is too late as BD already jabbed them with some of the 9 million AstraZeneca vaccines it has already given.
The sum of the agreement. As of April, the number of deliveries was 260 million. Delivery should be complete by June after the new plant starts. Now China's capacity is 12M a day, half of which is exported.
