DHAKA, July 23, 2014 (BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim today said doctors and medicines will be send from Bangladesh for the cause of Palestinians wounded in Israeli attacks.
"We, on behalf of the 14-party alliance, will send doctors and medicines for treatment of the common people of Palestine," he said while speaking as the chief guest at Green Aforestation programme at the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital at Sher-e-Banglanagar in the city.
The minister said, "A total of 6,221 new doctors will be appointed on August 7. I have told everybody that we will not pay heed to your words over the next two years. If required, you can choose your posting in your own districts-upazilas."
Mohammad Nasim called upon the doctors not to go on strike taking the patients as hostage.
He said, "We will take into consideration your demands if you choose alternative ways of movement-protest instead of going for strike.
I have told always the relatives of patients not to hurt doctors unnecessarily and no doctor can cause harm to his/her patient willingly.
Turning to the anti-spurious drugs drive, the minister said, "The drive is going on regularly with punishment. The drive will be geared up, if required."
Mohammad Nasim said usually the hospitals run without doctors during Eid vacation and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has already instructed all the hospitals in this regard so that doctors attend their duties during the Eid holidays.
When asked whether the Drug Law will be changed (amended), the minister said, "We can request the Law Ministry or the Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament) to take steps in this regard, if there is necessary (appropriate) suggestion."
Director of the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital Prof Dr Jalal Ahmed chaired the function, also addressed, among others, by Director General of the Health Directorate Prof Dr Deen Md Nurul Huq and secretary general of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Iqbal Arsalan.
Earlier in the afternoon, the minister planted a Bakul sapling on the premises of the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital.
Later, he inaugurated the children department of the hospital.
