Many people don't realize the importance of this project. Lets take an example from history. When South Korea got independence their situation was behind Kenya and other african countries. The first thing their leaders did was to connect the major cities with a 6 lane highway. Thats it from then they never looked back.

Highways are catalysts for development. Seeing the korean miracle India is trying the same with DMIC. A 1500 km highway with massive cities all around it and supported with a dedicated freight corridoor.

Bd should go ahead and make this a priority project. This will do wonders in the future for the BD economy and please stop this Indian hate Bengalis we all brothers when it comes to development.

:lol:more fake promises before the elections by awami league ministry of propaganda. What happened to the padma bridge?

You have the freedom to write whatever you want. But, the news did not say the expressway has been already promised by the govt. It is only a proposition. But, living in a developed country, you will agree that BD needs this kind expressways after only a few years from now. Based on 2005 if the GDP is $160 billion now, it will rise to $300 billion within the next 10 years. In order to accomodate this big GDP, Bd needs many more roads and expressways.

Also think in conjunction with that AL-promised deep sea port. Do not you really think that whichever party is in power, BNP or AL, the country should build and open the proposed expressway before that port is completed. So, how about the following?

1) Let BNP come to power.

2) Let BNP settle the issue of transit of Indian goods to its NE and then start the construction of 1st phase of the deep port. Without Indian market to serve, I believe, there is no econmic future of this port.

3) Let BNP also start building this PPP financed expressway and finish it by the time the 1st phase is complete.

4) Let BNP do the expressway construction job basically on elevated soil, say 5m above the farmland, instead of outright on elevated RCC construction.

5) But, let also BNP build some of the portions on reinforced cement concrete (RCC) structure wherever needed due to some unknown factors.

This is an important project, perhaps even more so than Padma bridge, as it will enable fast connectivity from the port city of Chittagong to the capital Dhaka. This will allow the flow of people and goods both between the 2 largest population centres in BD but also to and from the outside world.

BD desperately needs more infrastructure like roads, bridges, railways and power stations.

The issue is the incompetence and corruption of the politicians which means everything takes twice as long to build as it should do.
