Bangladesh to build 3600MW LNG-run power plant at Payra

soon produce more electricity than it consumes.
Not actually, demand is increasing by 10% per year.By this rate demand will double at every 6 years. These project will only barely keep pace with the rising demand.

.
Please... more details....:-)

You're saying they have no pedigree in rail-related consulting??

That's the thing, there are no details!

DP Rail Limited is an active company incorporated on 19 December 2013 with the registered office located in Suffolk. DP Rail Limited has been running for 3 Years 10 Months.

SME Size Micro – Less than 10 employees or turnover under £2 million

This is the website: http://www.dprail.co.uk/

They have people on board with the requisite knowledge (from elsewhere) - but as a company, they have done NOTHING.

I think this may have been a sham company set up by cronies of the present govt. (which is, sadly, normal in Asia).

Why is the press not reporting this?

Damned if I know - I've been looking up DP Rail since last year and have yet to find anything that gives me confidence in their ability to consult on a project costing billions.

They have people who have worked in the rail industry and have held very senior posts, but that doesn't mean they can now properly deal with a project of this magnitude. I'm sure, we'll hear they are being replaced at some point and a company with experience will be brought in.

I'm surprised the Chinese didn't lobby for one of their own consulting firms.

payra_rail_link.jpg

British firm DP Rail is working with China Railway Construction Corporation (International) Ltd as its principal civil engineering contractor.
The rail line is remarkably straight north south. Very good.:-) It will need hell lot of of bridge and culverts. Barisal division is all about rivers and swamp.

Kuakata beach is very near. All plan should integrate the tourism angle as well.

I will have to disagree with you here.:-)

10% a year increase will require just over 7 years to double. 1.1^7 = 1.95

I am making an assumption that all the electrictity from these plants can get to where it is needed and this may not be the case due to the BD electricity grid setup.

Current BD demand is 10GW. Adding up the 7.1GW from these two gas plants + Roopur nuclear(2.4GW), Payra Coal(1.32GW) and Matarbari Coal(1.2GW) makes it a total of 12.02GW. I am not evening taking into account other smaller projects and so if the electricity grid of BD is able to supply power to where it is needed by 2024, BD may actually produce a little bit more than it needs.

As big an issue as production is...distribution is an even bigger obstacle at the moment. All these things take major $$$$ and time. So, a lot has been done in the past 8-9 years, but we're still playing catch up and will be for the decade.

I am confident that BD infrastructure issues will on the whole be up to decent standards by 2030.

Kuakata already has some Middle-of-the-Road 'Resorts', but local standard, I guess.

This is the Kuakata Grand Hotel & Sea Resort at Latachapli

Pretty opulent but they need interior designer :-)

More pictures.. there are only two 'standard' places to stay in that town,

Kuakata will get a big boost once rail line and 4 lane highway is built. This is one of the rare beach in the world where one can see both sunrise and sunset standing in a same spot.We need to highlight this fact internationally. With proper connection and beach centric entertainment option, it will be a great tourist destination.

Bangladesh signs deal with Siemens to build its largest power plant

The 3,600-megawatt plant will be built in the southern district of Patuakhali's Payra, which also boasts a seaport.

The agreement between state-owned North-West Power Generation Company Ltd and Siemens has been signed in Dhaka on Sunday.

North-West Managing Director AM Khurshedul Alam and Siemens South Asia CEO Sunil Mathur signed the memorandum of understanding or MoU.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid told bdnews24.com on Saturday that the project is expected to start by June next year.

The estimated cost of the project is $ 2.8 billion, according to a statement by the government's power division.

Hamid had said that 80 percent of the cost is expected to come as loans.

He said Siemens would also construct another 3500MW power plant at Maheshkhali in Cox's Bazar.

An MoU between the Power Development Board or PDB with the firm for the Maheshkhali plant soon, he said.

At Payra, North-West Power Generation is already constructing a 1320MW coal-fired power plant with China's help, and 26 percent work of the project is complete.

The LNG-run plant will be on a 100-acre plot, adjacent to the site of coal-fired plant, said the statement by the government.

The first phase of the project, implemented by a joint venture company, is expected to finish in June 2020, when the plant will be able to generate 1200MW of electricity.

North-West Managing Director Alam told bdnews24.com the plant will be able to produce another 12000MW power in December the same year and the rest by the end of 2021.

Alam said an LNG terminal would also be set up in Payra to supply the LNG, which will be imported, to the plant.

The Bangladesh government has a series of large infrastructure projects in Payra, including a port and economic zone for the development of the country's southern region.

The country's capacity to generate electricity now stands 15,821MW. The government targeted to raise it to 24,000MW by 2021 and 40,000MW by 2030.

Since 2009, a total of 87 power plants with a combined capacity to generate 9,254MW have been set up.

Now the government is eyeing larger power plants. The work to build a nuclear power plant at Rooppur in Pabna is under way.

Besides this, some more coal-run power plants Cox's Bazar's Maheshkhali, in Bagerhat and some other gas-run power plants are being set up.

Indeed...But Idune will deny coz it has happened during AL in power while Nilgiri will deny telling it BBS data :angry::angry:

NO, idune will point out it is 10 years too late. In last 10 years, awami league looted Bangladesh high and dry (1/3 rd of total tax revenue of BD) by using its party cadre and their "Rental power plant" scam. There is not much left in Bangladesh financial system for awami league to loot.

idune will also point out these are just MOU, there is no financing in place for such project yet.
So these are just awami CARTOON project until there is real financing and plan in place for completion.

For awami cheerleading band go fetch these information from your political god bro Joy.

BAL does corruption but BAL also does some work otherwise the contract would have given to Falu. BNP does corruption and didnt do any work except some khamba purchase,5 times world cup holder for corruption.

Not answered on the topic on the whole.
These plants will all supply electricity at very low prices - far cheaper than the rental plants and will save BD taxpayers money as the rental plants are taken out of the mix.
As one of the major impediments to FDI is poor infrastructure, these power plants along with new roads and railways will greatly help.

This is all operationalising massive slack in the LRAS (long run aggregate supply) rather than pushing the LRAS itself (which is what I think is instrumentally more noteworthy). Its really only a major thing when its not happening. If members assertions are it wasn't happening under the BNP, then thats truly terrible.

The realised price trends have to be seen rather than projected. There will be interplay of demand/supply and the ability of BD to reform the relevant stakeholders....inertia there always adds to cost, both on ground and hidden. None of this can be automatically assumed, that too using other countries with far different financial environments as basis.
