BNP Standing Committee Member ASM Hannan Shah yesterday said the Rupgonj incident was an apparent mass agitation against the misrule of the ruling party. Not the BNP-Jamaat men but local leaders and activists of ruling party were responsible for the incident, he added.

"Local MP and Awami League leaders provided sticks and T-shirts to the agitated people," he said while addressing a discussion titled 'Human Rights Violation in Kashmir' at the National Press Club. Bangladesh-Kashmir Brotherhood Council organised the discussion.

Presided over by Maulana Muhiuddin Khan, the discussion was addressed among others by Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) Chairman Shafiul Alam Prodhan, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Secretary Shamim Al Mamun, BNP Executive Committee Member Ismail Hossain Bengal, Editor of The New Nation Mostafa Kamal Majumdar, Islamic Party President Advocate Abdul Mobin, NAP Bhasani President Sheikh Anwarul Haque, NDP Secretary Alamgir Majumdar and Advocate Tajul Islam.

Hannan Shah said the cruelty of Indian imperialism in Kashmir turned the ''heaven of the earth'' into a valley of widows. He urged the freedom loving people to press the government to support the independence movement of Kashmir.

He said, "According to the 25th article of the Constitution, Bangladesh government is committed to help any country that was fighting for its independence."

Criticising the Bangladesh-India border haat programme, he said, it was another tribute to the Indian government from the ruling party side as India helped them to get the chair. It would never bring anything good for the country rather it would help India to enter our country, he added.

Referring to the first border haat programme taken by the post-independence government, he said, "the then government was compelled to close the haat, as it was a suicidal decision."

He expressed his concern over the frequent use of the word 'militancy' by the ruling party men saying that our political leaders and even the common people were being treated as militants whenever they talk about Islam and Islamic rules and justice.

Mentioning the ten-truck arms case, JAGPA Chairman Shafiul Alam Prodhan said it was the foremost duty of the Bangladesh government to support the independence movement of the seven sisters as they also helped us during our liberation war.

He said, "India also helped us by providing arms but no case was filed in India."

Mostafa Kamal Majumder said our leaders get frightened to talk about Kashmir issue as we got our independence with the help of India. They think that they would be treated as anti-Indian and thus their career would be doomed, he added.

He urged the people to stand against the human rights violation in Kashmir as human rights workers in India do.

Referring to the recent verdict of Indian High Court about the Babri Mosque issue, Advocate Tajul Islam said how could we expect human rights in Kashmir while there was no justice in India.

He said, "according to the UN resolution of 1947, India was committed to hold a plebiscite on Kashmir's future. But India never took any initiative in this regard as Kashmir has the muslim majority.

India may have to leave Kashmir soon. Kashmiris just need to be desperate as like as BD was in 71. They need one speech like 7th March, desperate Kashmiris, bomb attacks, foreign helps and few patriot-songs. I think still all Kashmiri people could not cross their limit of patience - that's why they are still occupied by India.

- Intuition.

Typical indian delusion. What about the massive protests, killings, rallies, strikes that go on in indian occupied Kashmir regularly

No the Kashmiris are waiting for their Bangla liberators to interfere since millions of Kashmiris are being massacred. What are you waiting for Bangladesh, send the army and teach the Indians a lesson.

China-Tibet is a different issue. So, in your opinion Kashmiris are living inside a big cage that is made of gold. But, what difference does it make if a cage is made of gold or of iron. A cage is a cage. Kashmiris want freedom.

I forecast one future prospect. Whatever may be the status now, Kashmir will break out of your gold cage whenever its number of population reach a certain level. A large population cannot be contained by a brutal force. So, you can either reduce the Kashmiri population, or decide to leave the land.
