1. India was not "astonished" by MiG-29 procurement. This is BS. India would rather prefer BD buy Su-35s from Russia than F-7s from China. It is Chinese influence that scares India.

2. BNP are utter morons and anti-BD. BKZ is a petty self-centred person with zero managerial skills.

3. Agreed regarding sub procurement. Add to that the $1.2 b sub base contracted to the Chinese.

4. MRCA stalemate is a mixed bag of BAL reluctance and BAF incompetence.
BAL is to blame for not forming a Joint Chief's office which would work to streamline and prioritise defence procurements.
There may be pressure from India against J-10 procurement to replace F-7s

BAF is to blame for failing to push procurement demands through PMO and MoD unlike BA and BN. BAL is certainly not anti-mil procurement as evident by rapid modernisation of BA and BN.

BAF should have sent experienced pilots to supplier nations for Operational Conversion to fast track MRCA procurement.

I was talking about in late 1990s, not today. What you are saying here is relevant for present days. Twenty years ago, Chinese fighter jets were not as good as today. Chinese defence budget was not much different then what Indian spent then. Sino-Indian rivalry was not as intense as today. India did not bothered what Bangladesh buy or not from China then. India of course astonished, not only India but USA also surprised by the Bangladeshi move. At first Bangladesh govt. approached to US for F-16. But US felt that Bangladesh's economy is too poor to afford them, so they refused. Bangladesh later gone to Russia for Mig-29.

Hasina also astonished her countrymen. Nobody in Bangladesh then expected that our humble air force would fly a fighter jet like Mig-29. Now don't reply me that Mig-29 is not that great. I am not talking about today. Twenty years ago, Mig-29 was one of the most advanced fighter jet. This unexpectedness then caught BNP-Jamat opposition off-guard. They reacted severely and agitated on the streets. Clearly they feared that, AL was taking Armed Forces on it's side. What I am saying here is not my invention. Could it be that Hasina does not want a stronger Air Force because she does not want to give power to the military to wage war that she cannot control. She does not want a war with MM. So, why a strong airforce?

Defence budgets have always been increasing and will keep on increasing with the rise of economy. Talking about the BAF strength, a national military force is weak unless its air force is strong.

Land force and naval force are impotent without a strong air force. Enemy air force can destroy military weapons on land and water if the air force is incapable to accept challenges by the enemy.

Hasina certainly does not want military Generals to go above her head in an offensive war against MM. This is why Hasina has withheld purchases for the air force.

I am of anti BAL persuasion. However the facts speak for themselves. Only time our armed forces expanded numbers or capability has been during BAL tenure.

On that evidence i can only praise SKH. Would we be in a better position with BNP....unlikely.

It is another example of an unattainable জুতা আবিষ্কার in a country where the govt spends billions of dollars continuously on bridge construction by foreigners, but without our own engineering organizations' participation to learn. It was Jamuna Bridge and now it is Padma Bridge. There are tens of smaller others in between.

Hasina is worried about military because it killed her family and that President Zia, a military man, became also very popular. No air force means no power to wage war against MM. No war means, no creation of another war hero whose popularity may supersede her father's popularity and hers (Is she popular?). Hasina bought Migs in the past only to reinstate military trust on her and her family.

Begum Zia is also almost the same. She wants to guard Zia's legacy. She was also capable to hurt the feelings of military when she was in power. She de-commissioned the Frigate Bangobondhu (?), and tried hard to discredit the purchase of Migs by Hasina. She could do so only because they respected Zia.

In the past, Hasina was unable to abuse the military, but with time, she has grown some muscles. This is why she gets away with the non-purchasing of real jets. She is hoodwinking the military by her purchase of Toy Training Planes.
