Bangladesh on cusp of industrial revolution, HSBC says in Bangladesh Market Insights 2021

Bangladesh offers 100% capital repatriation and tax breaks as standard for FDI.

BDs FDI has been historically very poor.
Please open the link below to know what barriers are there for the FDI companies in BD and why still they are reluctant to invest:

BD govt is a joke. When ppl are dying on covid and they **** up vaccines supply by listening to Indians now doing drama by arresting bunch of fat aunties or so called movie stars ..fucking retards.
Chill. They’ve been jabbing everyone and their mother with moderna 😂

It seems peculiar to BD that while outsiders praise its economy, some BD'shis think otherwise. They seem obsessed with running the country down.

Food for thought - some people on this very forum living in the West, who have never set foot in BD, may be using smartphones and tvs designed and manufactured by a BD company without knowing it.

There will come a time where BD can't take the easy way out , then BD will understand they should have modernized and actually industrialized.

I can't wait for the rise of A.I , can't wait to see the fools in BD fall like a house of cards due to their own BS

AI will affect developed countries too. Will you feel the same if AI wipes out your career in the USA?

People have spent their lives developing garments, setting up factories, meeting govt compliance, getting international certifications, winning supply contracts from big retailers while competing with factories in India, Vietnam, Pakistan, Turkey and then working like crazy to fulfill those orders. You should not be so dismissive of Bangladeshi industry - it is a massive win and it didn't happen easily.

International think-tanks understand the global economic challenges and they rate BD highly - but some of our own people abroad don't seem to see it.

If it was as simple as 'bring in FDI' - India with its political lobby in UK, Canada and USA would be rich - instead even the most literate country in the region Sri Lanka is borrowing from BD - that's the reality of the global economy.

Bangladesh has got the fundamentals correct.

RMG sector is massively complex and others simply can not replicate it. BD needs to diversify without doubt but we need to nurture our goose so it can continue to lay the golden eggs for years to come.

Our RMG workers and our overseas expatriate community are not working so that their kids do the same job as them. BDs massive IT labour force are exclusively working in I suppose what is the black economy... they get paid in foreign currency online that is beyond what BoB can monitor and they are not covered by the tax net.

If we can regularise these people it will undoubted add to the official GDP stats. What is encouraging is that this labour force is graduating from freelancing to starting to set up companies and going for proper long term contracts. BD is where india was perhaps in the 2000s, some of these companies will be sucessful and I am hopeful we will see BD version of Cognizant or TCS soon .

I'm pretty sure A.I will not take over a programmers job since they're the ones who will be controlling the robot in the first place.

But for Bangladesh I'm not dissing them or their growth , it's a country with many faults which it still hasn't and will not ever fix.

You can be optimistic for BD sure , I just like being realistic with myself since I like you used to be very optimistic for BD until I decided to stop coping and lying to myself that BD will eventually become somewhat developed or presentable.

Bangladesh has come a long way yes and has won , but so did every other successful nations. Bangladesh has a lot more to do and judging by the country's mass corruption and terrible leadership at times it will be very difficult to truly take it to the next level.

Also to add , Bangladesh's culture is still outdated which will need a major fix

I wish you do have a long career, but the point is even the leading countries in AI can't avoid job losses. So it's unfair to make out that BD had better options.

I'm not being optimistic about Bd, going from the UK, the issues in BD are not exactly subtle. But then again the problems of Bangladeshi society in the UK and USA are self evident too.

Infighting, corruption, political cronyism, racism, provincialism, colourism - its all here - so what right does a western Bangladeshi have to pass judgement on BD? Why should I be pessimistic about BD when I know the same characteristics exist in my community over here - and it is absolutely thriving.

Our fellow resident here got paid in bitcoin for his freelance work. Won’t mention who. Unless he wishes to come forward

One paid foreign news has no value and all these outside praises will evaporate in the thin air when BD Taka will go down to 120 Taka per dollar at a time when the amount of borrowing will be lower than the payment of arrears.

Wait till that day comes the same as the Pakistanis are experiencing by the result of putting big chunks in the mouth that they are unable to chew or swallow. Pakistan borrowing is $103 billion and BD borrowing is already $73 billion.

So, what is the difference? Now, wait with patience.

Well yes the Western world isn't perfect but due to a progressive culture , actual nationalism and proper leadership when needed is the reason why it thrives.

BD on the other hand has meh leadership , not bad in progressiveness but the culture completely needs a makeover to be honest. Also BD's corruption seems to be everywhere , in the Western world it isn't as bad like it's in BD. And BD has minimum nationalism which hinders it's actual true development

If you think the political leadership in the UK is anything but mediocre or rubbish then you need to come and live here. The quality of the leaders has been going down every year since Margaret Thatcher left office in 1990. The current one(Boris Johnson) is totally out of his depth and makes Hasina look like a genius!

There is a lot of corruption in the highest places in the UK and a lot of the government ministers here are totally and utterly incompetent.

The only advantage that the UK has in governance is its administrative structure is a lot better but I am sure that as the BD population gets more educated then the gap with the UK will slowly narrow over the decades.

Well America is much worse lmao , we literally had Trump protesters raid a dam Capitol building and Antifa breaking down and burning local businesses.

America seems fine for now cause it's still alive

British Etonian, PPE degree qualified politicians are incredibly skilled at one thing. Appearing to look like they know what they're doing, and know what they're talking about. Eton and Oxbridge do a wonderful thing of training you to be a fearsome debater. But that's all they're good at. When it comes to handling tough issues, climate change, industrial policy, Covid-19, they have an incredibly narrow, low resolution, and non-technical grasp of all the complexities and variables at hand.

It's a similar situation in British businesses. Even technically intensive organisations, like automobile, aerospace, defence tech, formula-1, etc, are often managed by people with MBA's, instead of technical backgrounds. Whereas in Germany, CEO's and senior managment of a similar organisation, from Mittelstadt's to VW group, tend to be composed of people with technical PhD's. This is partially why German businesses are much more robust than the pathetic cranky pussy of British industry.

Compare and contrast to the composition of the Chinese politburo, probably the most technocratic and pragmatic political entity on earth. A large majority of politburo members have technical backgrounds in STEM. No wonder they are able to execute planning, industrial, infrastructural, scientific developments, or even pandemic managment of their nation so successfully. Because they know what they're doing.

Pakistan borrowed to support revenue expenditure whilst BD has exclusively borrowed for capital expenditure.... that is the critical difference..... BD has never defaulted on our debts ever.....BD and PK are not similar when it comes to fiscal policy and outlook.
