Bangladesh needs preferential trade terms beyond 2026, PM Hasina says

A underrated side of the BD economy.
BD have worlds 8th largest population with a growing middle class. Thats Germany, France and Spain combined, more than half of the western European population.
Marketwise, it has the huuge benefit of very young population, high population density in a small geographical area and a unified state plus ethnicity. In may ways Bangladesh can be considered worlds largest town.

Technically BD's population is the size of Germany, France and Netherlands combined at around 165 million.

BD does not need to export as much as much smaller countries like Taiwan and S Korea needed to as they both had a fraction of BD's population.

When you look at total revenue of say Walton it comes at around 1 billion US dollars with 100 million from exports.

Yes exports are good to bring in foreign currency and to verify the price:performance ratio of the product internationally but it is not the only thing for BD companies.

It can certainly become one of the world's largest consumer markets in USD terms but we need to make sure that income inequality is kept under control to grow the middle class fast. This is why I keep stressing on lowering corporate taxes and increasing personal tax rates and tax default penalties on the wealthy - both of these measures would encourage wealthy people to keep re-investing their money in businesses to minimise their personal tax burdens. More reinvestments in industry would create more middle class jobs.
