Dhaka: A series of plans have already been taken to modernize the Bangladesh Navy. One of which is the decision to buy "Amphibious Transport Dock" for the Navy. It is known that the contract is to be held within this year.

Amphibious Transport Dock is a type of warships that can be used by the waterways to move from one place to another (either in the country or from one country to the other), to the army, the Armed Vehicle, especially the tank transport. Apart from keeping the helicopter for the mission, it also has the Landing Spot for the lift and Hanger in some cases. That is, in short, the army, the warship and the helicopter's outer carrier.

For now, Bangladesh will buy one that will join the service between 2018-2019. Meanwhile, Italy has officially offered their San Giorgio Class "Amphibious Transport Dock" to Bangladesh. There are also South Korean Dokdo classes in the preferred list. The Dokdo-class Amphibious Transport Dock is much larger in size and its defense is also better than the San Giorgio Classes.

Unreliable source to believe. What we will do with such big LPD. We an get south Korean design Indonesian LPD which will never much cheaper.

As far as I can recollect,Bangladesh had planned for a full fledged Infantry Brigade along with all related compliments+ Helicopters, to be deployed overseas at a short notice, possibly for U.N mission,as well as for the use of routine rotation of our present U.N peacekeepers deployed in trouble torn regions across the Globe, thus instead of relying on commercially hired Ships, BA intended to purchase a dedicated Ship, thereby achieving self reliance.
It needs to be noted here that, BN had decades earlier operated a large passenger ship named "BNS Hizbul Bahar".

umm not sure about strategic value of this unless off course BD has plans for our pesky neighbour.... if so let the preparation begin...

BD Navy is planned to end up the 2nd largest in S Asia - far ahead of Pakistan in 3rd place.
Ship like this will allow BD to invade that pesky neighbour from multiple axis.

Not worth it to be the 2nd largest.
It would be more wise to have a large arsenal of subs what Pakistan is doing.
Easier to attack,hide and defend.

Difficult when your larger neighbors have sub-tracking capability.

San Giorgio class -~8,000 tons full displacement
ITS San Marco L 9893 amphibious transport dock LPD

Launch of amphibious personnel carrier (launch of hovercraft and conventional Landing Craft is also through this door). Note lowering of complete ship by taking on water and flooding of internal chamber for launch.

Dokdo class is significantly larger at ~18,000 tons full displacement (and has newer technology) - launching Amphibious personnel carrier (probably Bradleys built in Korea).

I don't know - but this maybe too much LPH for us?? Used San Giorgio for now is fine, or if we can build one locally. The Algerian Navy had an improved San Giorgio class built for them by Fincantieri (Kalaat Béni Abbès - commissioned late 2014)

they have powerful navy think again

Bhaisaab, no one is thinking about clashes with any Navy, much less IN (Allah forbid).

The first work of a functioning Navy is deterrence. Giving any bully a second thought.

Hasina is preparing for an invasion of Andaman and Nicobar islands. She would need a few more Submarines to get the job done.

On point, this maybe for UN Peacekeeping work.
