Two points

(1) Between 75-91 there was military rule not democratically elected govt.

(2) What matters is right now, and given the fact that Awami party alliance has a 2/3 majority in parliament, that shows what the BD public wants. We will see how the next elections turnout to see if the preference has changed
But please do note that even Khalida Zia has stated that she wants freindly relations with India.

Its only JI which is opposed to friendly ties with India and they have never got more than 2-3% of BD vote even with military support. So people who hold that view are basically articulating that viewpoint.
