What's new

Bangladesh has annouced 15 members squad for world cup 2015

btw recently Afghanistan lost ODI series with UAE, 3-1

True. But at the same time, did anybody thought BD would be able to do what it did in 07??

It's just a hunch. I feel Afg are in the right path to pull off couple of upsets.

Sometimes our batting line-up starts to collapse, we need someone in the team to play to slow things down for a bit get a partnership going. The average strike-rate for ODI's is 70. Most of our batsmen have a strike-rate in the 70's (Mushfiq 71 and Shakib 79).

Also, he is an all-rounder, we would need strength in our batting line-up and not to mention that we will use at least 3 full-time pacers (Don't know whether Mashrafe is considered as an all-rounder), thus limiting to only one full-time spinner. We only have Shakib and Mahmudullah as the all-round spinner, it's best to have a 3rd one in the squad in case one of them gets injured or needs a rest.
In last 2 years, Mushfiq strike-rate close to 90. you can not expect every time batting collapse, even when there is batting collapse and start slow, you need to catch up later. having 66 strike rate is really poor thing.

and Mahmudullah is not all-rounder, he is handy bowler

when i saw stat of players in 2007, yes i believe. Afghan team does not have that stat.

Actually, we knew that we had a chance, as beating Bermuda was quite certain (but it wasn't as easy as we thought and we had to beat one of India or Sri Lanka to get to the next stage.

Also agree with @BDforever, the Afghan squad is no way as close as ours in 2007. Not to mention we had Test credentials.

.
Do you really think they have the capabilities to beat any of New Zealand, Australia, Sri Lanka or England. Because they would need to beat at least one of them and win against both Scotland and Bangladesh.

Why not? The smaller grounds at NZ may just give Afg the conditions it's batsman need.

A BDesi believing his team could advance is way different from a neutral believing they can do it.

Like I mentioned, there are going to be smaller grouds (such as those in NZ) where we need more runs and bigger grounds where we will need players who would try to take singles rather than trying something fancy. Naeem falls into the later category.

do u understand that low strike rate also means he can not take single regularly
? lol

Yes, 66% strike rate means that we will have something closer to 200 runs in 50 overs (198 to be precise). Also we are going to have a mixture of different types of batsmen, some scoring faster than the others. Players with Test abilities are required in the team just like payers with T20 abilities. ODI squad requires a mixture of both.

Also, I am sure we would have no problems having a spinner all-rounder as back-up in the team. I am not saying that he should start.

close to 200 runs mean low scoring, it also put pressure on other batsman.
now tell me at what position he would play with that strike rate ?

3rd or 4th sounds like a great position for him. Also it's quite difficult to put runs on the board in bigger grounds, especially with our players physical abilities. Normally something close to 250 is a good target to defend as long as it's not Australia in Australia.

.
So Bangladesh qualified
good :enjoy:

Anyways cricket is a waste of time unless the match is between India and Pakistan :D
