Bangladesh Delivers First Ocean Going Ship to Denmark

Ananda Shipyard and Slipways Ltd (ASSL) of Bangladesh has delivered the first ocean going multipurpose ship ‘Stella Maris’ to Demark on May 15. Bangladesh has now become an ocean going shipbuilding nation. ASSL established in 1983, is one of the largest shipbuilding & ship repairing yard in Bangladesh. ASSL is located at Narayanganj 25 Kms from Dhaka on the banks of river Meghna. ASSL is currently building ships for Denmark, Germany and Mozambique.

The interesting features of Stella Maris are:

ordered by Stella Maris Shipping of Denmark
order price of US$7 million
2900 dead weight tonnes (DWT)
order was received on September 30, 2005
vessel delivered ahead of delivery schedule

In addition to ASSL, two more ship builders of Bangladesh Western Marine Shipyard and Highspeed Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. are building ships for European countries. Export of ships by Bangladesh is expected to touch $10 billion by 2020
