SHILLONG: Border Security Force (BSF) troops manning the Indo-Bangladesh border at the Purakhasia outpost on Wednesday nabbed a Bangladeshi national while he was illegally entering India, and seized fake Indian currency notes (FICN) from him near Border Post 1098/6-S in the West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.
"Acting on specific information, BSF troops' Ex-114 Battalion arrested the person identified as Mohammed Samim Ahamad of Haluaghat Village in Sherpur district of Bangladesh," an official at the Assam and Meghalaya Frontier Headquarters of the BSF said.
"The troops have seized very high quality fake Indian currency worth Rs 1,500 (denomination: 500X3), a mobile phone with two Bangladeshi SIM cards, an ATM card (Dutches Bank of Bangladesh) and Bangladeshi currency from him," the official added.
The arrested person along with the fake currency notes has been handed over to the state police station for further action. "The BSF has strengthened operations on the Indo-Bangladesh Border to check trans-border activities," the official added.
The spurt in trans-border crimes was discussed during the Border Co-ordination meeting between the Inspector General of the BSF and Deputy Director General of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGD) in Shillong from December 12 to 15 last. It was emphasized that both the BSF and the BGB faced common trans-border issues like movements of insurgents and terrorists, drugs, fake currency and arms smuggling among others. The IG BSF had stressed on quick implementation of a coordinated border management plan to bring a paradigm change in border management for both the troops.
