Bangladeshi women participate in an event marking the Nabannon festival in Dhaka on November 15, 2009. Nabannon is a traditional annual festival marking the harvest of new crops. The festival, which literally means ‘new rice’, takes place in the month of Agrohayon of the Bangla Calendar. Festivities include making traditional cakes named ‘pitha’.–AFP Photos

Irrespective of what thread this Nabanno Festival pictures should have been posted to, I thank Mr. Halaku Khan Sahab for sending them. With a faster rate of economic development many such occasions will certainly be celebrated with more funfare across Bangladesh in the future.

Thanks to Allah and to our agriculture scientists, Bangladesh has very successfully introduced a new variety of rice in the north that can be harvested in shroter time. Govt also supported the farmers by providing loan and has subsidized the prices of fertilizer and (probably) diesel for pumping up water to irrigate the fields.

All together, there will be a record bumper crop this year in BD. It will surpass the record of last year's bumper. It would have been very difficult for the country to tackle any shortage of food, because Indian production this year is not upto the expection. India had sold us food before, but this year, unfortunately, India is importing food.
