Bangladesh Army likely to buy Russian Tanks

@bluesky what kind of APS on improved Type59BD?
Did not find any information regarding the fitting of any electronic active protection system (APS) in the improved Type-59BD medium battle tanks with effectiveness against anti-tank guided missiles.

i don't think type-59bd comes equipped with any APS... nor does al zarrar... where's the space to put that in such a small tank... also the radar sensor isn;t there on turret... not any hard kill soft kill equipments...

Self protection system of Type 59BD includes Jammers & laser warning receiver.

What quantity of tanks do we even possess? Only the MBT2000 numbers are known to me.

Brother @wanglaokan is talking about the ZTQ light tank (Export designation VT5).
This ZTQ medium weight tank is what may be suitable for BA to operate in the BD border regions. If BA want a heavy tank, it is better they choose Chinese Type-99 main battle tanks, and not the Russian heavy tanks. The latter source is unreliable because the Rus have no interest in the after sale services. They may demand exorbitant prices for repairing in BD soil. India will influence the uses of Rus tanks, but it cannot when it is China tanks.

Agree 100%......

We should have a few Type 99's positioned strategically, and then the ZTQ/VT5 in large numbers (possibly assembled locally with ToT). The Type 96B is also economical, but I believe ZTQ/VT5 is even more economical and can be our next Type 59BD/Al-Zarrar.

We should also look at producing/assembling ATGM's like METIS-M, HJ-8, RPG-29 and RPG-32 locally. The ATGM's are a lot cheaper than tanks. One ATGM round (like METIS) used properly can take care of a three million dollar tank. You can't beat that ratio of economy. And they are re-usable.

I am going to attach a video link here. Although a gruesome wartime video - this illustrates how effective ATGM's are against tanks and stationery targets even 3000 meters away. Watch using your own discretion please.

You guys forgot to mention Ground Pressure or kgf/c(square). As this is more important characteristics than Power/Weight Ratio of a tank's movability on a weak soil. T90's is approx. 0.93kg/c which is not good. Light tanks have about 0.70-0.80 kg/c. Indian Arjun1 is 0.85 kg/c only! They increased the size of the tank along with the width of track. Chicky!

There is no such unit as kgf/c. It may be kgf/cm2. In that case, a 0.93 kgf/cm2 equals 9,300 kg/m2 or 9.3 ton/m2. Almost any place in BD, the soil bearing capacity is no more than 5.0 ton/m2. During emergency the tanks do not really move over asphalt roads. They move over agriculture or any land, and the soil bearing capacity here may be less than 3.0 ton/m2. So, immobile heavy tanks are susceptible to bog down.

This is what happened in 1971 with the IA small tanks. The 1971 photographs IA shows were taken after 16 December. A few number of tanks were seen coming over the Pakka roads.

For those who may think that alkhalid has less protection, read this.

The composite protection block is around 550-620mm

Back plate of the composite module is between 150-200mm.

AORAK ERA or external composite layers add another 150-300mm.

Thats almost 1150mm frontal protection from APFSDS round only. For HEAT rounds, it goes around 1250-1300mm.

A more than decent protection against any modern antitank threat being used in the world. This includes both 125 and 120mm caliber ammo.

note the weight of t-90 varies with variants... so does its HP and ground pressure... i would expect same of if not better performance on its last variants...

The rumor of it under performing is quiet a BS. It's a good tank. Will be a great arm if you back it up with another platform or two.

yes and if bought in hude numbers and maybe get's the new composite turret upgrades... will be a great beast

Yes, the ZBD-2000 is the type of tank the BD soil can support. This is what we need for our defense. Other medium to heavy weight tanks may be used to incur into the enemy territory in our north where soil is stable to support even a 100 ton tank.
60+ ton arjun might be shit to operate in bd soil... 30-50 ton tanks can easily operate in bd... unless you're planning to run them in the sea... like the above pic
