Everything changed on the night of 25 March 1971; The black day in history of Pakistan. That day Pakistan was divided into Two parts mainly due to arrogance of West Pakistanis. West and East was indeed together but West Pakistanis never considered the East Pakistanis to be their own. They always seen Themselves as superior because they had better economy and Social conditions but Today the table has been turned, Today while the so called Superior Pakistan is facing millions of problems and one of the worst Performing economy in the world, It's former counterpart Bangladesh is considered the Economic Miracle of 21st century and the next Asian Economic Superpower. Why? What has pushed Pakistan Back and Pulled Bangladesh front?

West Pakistani Politicians and their Failed Diplomacy
West and East Pakistan was located strategically surrounding it's arch rival India, and It is a fact that Pakistan as united was more powerful than India back in 1960 but arrogance of West Pakistani Government (not people) led to the worst day in history of Pakistan. A small argument occurred when Jinnah tried to impose Urdu on Bangladeshis (In 1952) but it became big when Sheikh Mujibur Rahman won the presidential election by 60:40 ratio but West Pakistan refused to hand over power to him because he was East Pakistani. The Situation is more like Indians saying Modi can't become the prime minister because he is from Gujarat and not Delhi. This wasn't all; Regereded as Pakistan's National Hero; Yahya Khan went the next level by sending Pakistani Troops to East Pakistan to kill anyone people randomly.

It is very unfortunate and funny at the same time that Pakistan was under someone's leadership who couldn't even keep 2 states united while India is keeping 29. Basically the Whole West Pakistan shouldn't be blamed, It's only handful of Politicians because there were some great such as Ayub Khan (during his reign Pakistan has developing as a whole) but politicians such as Bhutto and Yahya divided the most powerful Islamic Nation on earth and India took an advantage of It.

Economy 2014

If Pakistan and Bangladesh was united, by 2020 our (Pakistanis and Bangladeshis) economy would total up to $1.4 Trillion, but also some could say that Bangladesh would also become the target of Terrorism but what's gone is gone for good. Once neglected as Poor and Backward by West Pakistan; It's former counterpart Bangladesh today provides a better life for it's people; economically, socially, and provides a safe society to it's citizens and better future for the next generation.

Today, The table has been turned. 43 Years ago what West Pakistanis said about Bangladeshis, Today Bangladeshi people can say the same to Pakistani Citizens.

Bangladesh's economic growth is termed by many economists (famously Goldman Sachs) as the miracle of the East, From 1990 to 2014, The GDP Growth never slipped below 6% (6.2% percent has the lowest) and now Bangladesh is expecting 7.2% GDP Growth from 2015.

On the other hand, Pakistan has suffered a severe damage in economy because of Terrorism Activities because Pakistan do have the ability to build a strong economy. Pakistan's GDP Growth has been as low as 1% (1997) and currently it's 4.2%.

The reason behind this is political extremism caused by Taliban (Taliban have no association with Islam). The scenario in two biggest Muslim countries will give you a shock; In Last 4 Years approximately 7,000 Terrorist attacks took place in Pakistan and The Figure in Bangladesh is Zero (Not a single terrorist attack); While Pakistani Government is silent about this issue, on the other hand Bangladesh Government has placed this issue on top priority although not a single terrorist attacks took place in last 5 years.

Highly unlikely - IMF forecasts have hardly ever been right when it comes to Pakistan. As they only predict with current situation and condition - wouldn't call that a prediction.

Pakistan's GDP growth rate has always been unstable and is one of the most unpredictable and unexpected. It can go from 4.5% to 8% anytime. We've always had an average of 2-4% higher rates than predicted. Our economy took a hit during the peak of war on terrorism which cost us around 80 billion dollars lowering our average growth rate from 6% this decade.
Look at this chart to know how fast and quick our GDP growth rates can change.

Currently 2% of our growth is hampered because of energy cuts and another 2-3% is hampered due to the fact that we have an undocumented economy of 36%
The Government has pledged to both eliminate energy cuts and to fully regulate the economy by 2018-2020. Meaning our growth rate could double. Organizations who take this into account also acknowledge this; such as trade economics.

Not to mention the billions of dollars being poured into Pakistan - here are the projects invested and headed by China from 2014-2015 alone. Once CPEC is finished - all trade enroute to China via Suez, East Africa and South Africa will go through Gwadar, also making us in the center of international trade.

Indians like @Nilgiri can continue to deny this - but fact is fact. We have a brighter future than anyone else in the region - the question isnt 'if' but 'when'.

Your first chart is not real growth rate. It is in current local prices which adds inflation.

Also explains its very high variability.

I will continue to counter your trumping of Pakistan over everyone else, even Bangladesh, as long as your GFCF stays at a lousy 13%.

Have you even looked at the most recent FDI figures for Pakistan? When is the main CPEC investment flow supposed to kick in? It is not shaping up to be this year. Or is it going to be spread very thinly over many years? Still no clear answer to this.

Even with CPEC going perfectly and coming over just a few years, the GFCF will only increase to around 20% as per my calculation....10% short of where it should be for long term 6% base growth rate.

Sir, there is nothing to get jealousy about. Who ever works hard deserves to be at top. If BD is more focused and works hard then they will close gap with India too.

It is almost certainly true that BD will catch up and maybe even surpass Pakistan in nominal GDP over the next decade but this is unlikely to last as Pakistan has the advantage of far greater natural resources and it's close alliance with China.

What may happen is that by 2025, BD has a slightly larger economy than Pakistan but from then onwards, stability and investments from China start paying dividends and then Pakistan enters a period of higher growth than BD.

In the development of nations there are three main stages. First is getting all of the people to work. Organizing the society so that everyone can do their bit in the factory that the country becomes. Second stage is solving the problems that humanity faces. The problem solving nations construct the solutions and then give them to the factory nations to implement. The third stage is that of the philosopher nation. They only apply themselves to the understanding of true nature of things. Once they have understood the fundamental nature of things then the problem solving nation can use the knowledge hence created to solve the problems pertaining to those things. And after that those solutions are implemented by the working nation.
Bangladesh has only just got its people to work. Its a first stage nation like Pakistan. Though it has indeed got ahead of Pakistan but i would not differentiate between nations belonging to the same stage.

You're probably unaware of this but since 1980, in 15 fiscal years the Nominal GDP gap was decreasing between Pakistan and Bangladesh but in 21 fiscal years the gap increased. Meaning, Bangladesh loses steam very quickly and as a result has never managed to surpass Pakistan.

First of all may I say congratulations to the Bangladeshis on your achievements. You're absolutely correct that Ayub Khan was Pakistan's greatest leader, and that it was his efforts which took Pakistan from being a backwater of the British Raj into one of the economic 'tigers' of Asia.

You're also correct in pointing out that Urdu should never have been imposed as the national language. The state language should have been English. Heck, I would even have been happy with Sanskrit, given that hardly anyone speaks Sanskrit and it isn't associated with any group. Urdu was the worst possible choice because not only was it not the main native language in any of the provinces in Pakistan, it was also the language of a small tightly knit ethnic group who were based near the capital. This automatically both distanced every province from the capital, but also created a government bureaucracy which was nepotistic and only concerned with preserving the power of their own ethnic group. Urdu became a wall which the members of other provinces had to climb in order to approach the government.

Ayub Khan, visionary that he was recognized the problem, and created a new capital city, but the 'munshi' class coalesced urban reactionary forces around the figure of the frail sister of the first leader of pakistan. Given that she was verging on senility, they found it easy to manipulate her as a figurehead against Ayub Khan. These terrorists then brought down Pakistan's last great government and replaced it with Yahya Qizilbashi and Zulfiqar Bhutto.

It was Zulfiqar Bhutto who can be chiefly held liable for all that followed. Yahya was a thug, but Bhutto was far worse. It was Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto who first began the game of using sectarian politics to increase his support base.

As for the missing billions from Pakistan, those billions have disappeared into bank accounts in Switzerland.

Yes English or even Sanskrit would have been better.

Pakistan was created because Muslims felt Sanskrit is inferior to Arabic and Persian which they bring to the subcontinent. The amount of hatred Pakistanis have for Hindus, making Sanskrit national language of Pakistan would have been disastrous as Muslims would feel inferior of using language of Hindus. Maybe someday Pakistan can make Sanskrit its national language when they remove Islamic from republic and give proper rights to Hindus.

Forget about Pakistanis, even Indian muslims, who are actually converts, hesitate to use Sanskrit names. They all use names taken from Kuran.
