Ballistic Missile Defence system to be tested in May - The New Indian Express


Come May, India will take a significant step towards operationalising its indigenous experimental Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) system that can target incoming missiles with its own interceptor missiles.

The system, which will provide India with the capability to counter missile threats from China and Pakistan, will be tested at 200-km altitude in May.

“We are preparing to test the interceptor missile at 200-km altitude this May,” DRDO chief Dr V K Saraswat said here on Tuesday.

The DRDO is also preparing to operationalise the phase-I of the BMD system to provide a missile shield to major cities including the national capital by 2014.

Shaheen II has flight altitude of 100 to 300 KM.

Yes they do. Shaheen-II has an apogee of ~400 km for maximum range (~2000 km). More expected soon.

That will provide the much needed boost to our establishment(not scientists or political heads but common people, it's us who have lost the faith in these people due to crazy media.). No need to create hype. If we are able to shoot down IRBM then next target will be ICBM. But I have question. What is the highest altitude till where missile go up. Because I was thinking it is pretty much harder to track missiles in specific phases against satellite. So we will have the capability ti shoot down missile even without testing them & we will save ourselves from foreign condemnation also. Lathi bhi na tute aur kaam bhi ho jaye something like this. What do you people say?
