Ballistic Missile Defence system to be tested in May

wow!! just by a person announcing something to test in May will rightway " operationalise the missile shield to major cities including the national capital by 2014".

No they will operationalise the phase-1 BMD that was tested 7-8 times so far in 2014.

Indian citizens dignity is tied to a missile tests? Sounds a lot like NoKo attitude.

No the said organisation's dignity is at stake if they announce it in advance and fail in the test.
Why are you bringing citizens into the middle?

Can Prithvis fly to an altitude of 200km? If not, what missile will we intercept??

Agni-4 is said to be capable of 900-km max altitude before diving back to the earthly target...we should aim
to intercept such missiles in future.

no country ever intercepted a missile at that hieight. I doubt even icbm fly at that height. agni4 did to minimize range. with 400 km it would have gone much longer range.

@ Saraswat

Sir plz do the test of Nirbhay in Feb else you should not live Nirbhay..:guns:

But sir what missile will we intercept at 200km altitude?

Or will it be a computer-simulated test like the Americans do?

Prithvi missile has an apogee around 60-70km.As shaurya missile is in production,it's logical that DRDO will use it as target missile.

BTW,shaurya missile maximum altitude is 200km

Do Pakistani missiles go that high? :woot: Just asking.....

If these estimates are correct, then this yet to be tested ABM will give India the capability to engage only the SRBMs (Ghaznavi, Shaheen-I) of Pakistan.

if this abm test get successful then india will get the ability to destroy any object flying at 200km altitude with aproximate 3km/sec speed. so ballistic missiles of 3000km range class can be intercepted.

Missiles like topol and minuteman have apogee of 2000 kilometers...
So yes missiles do fly very high...
India is experimenting with too many different types of ABM...it was better if they had selected one and made it better.

There is need for different types of ABMs.

The PAD first experimented exoatmospheric interception at 75km altitude some years ago.

New PDV takes that to 200km or more. Our's is an evolving programe. PDV is similar to THAAD in operation.

AAD-1 is for endo-atmospheric interception.

Kindly see the graph again, even a 1300km range MRBM (for example, Ghauri) is shown to have an apogee of 300 km.

Looks like the Indian military is going crazy from inferiority and jealousy after China's ABM test

The chances of India successfully shooting down a ballistic missile or satellite is a fat zero.

India will, as usual, show a primitive rocket launching and then declare "all mission parameters fulfilled; ready to enter service"
