After India, Sri Lanka launches Ramayana Tourism Circuit

Chennai: The Sri Lankan government has launched a Ramayana tourism circuit to attract more tourists from India. The circuit will link all temples and caves in the country associated with the Hindu epic. Sri Lanka Tourism Minister John Amaratunga launched the initiative at the Sri Lanka Tourism Roadhow in Kochi on Friday.

Manavari temple, Ravan cave, Ashok Vatika, Seetha Amman temple, Divurumpola, Ussangoda, Thiru Koneswaram temple and Kathirkamam are part of the Ramayana circuit in Sri Lanka.

The Indian government had also launched the Ramayana circuit and is one of the fifteen thematic circuits identified for development under the Swadesh Darshan scheme. The tourism ministry last year identified 15 destinations for development under the Ramayana circuit. Ayodhya, Nandigram, Nashik, Nagpur, Hampi and Rameshwaram were among the 15 destinations identified under the scheme for development.

Amaratunga said that as part of the initiative, a ferry service will be launched between Thalaimannar in Sri Lanka and Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu government has given the green signal for the ferry service and it is expected to be launched by the end of this year.

Moreover, in the roadshow organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Amartunga said Indian tourists who are visiting Sri Lanka will be provided with free visas. Also, the country has introduced a 50 per cent discount on hotel packages with effect from August 1 for Indian tourists and also brought down ground handling charges in airports substantially.

Tourists from South India have been ignoring Sri Lanka for some time now due to "internal problems." However, the situation has changed and Sri Lanka is presently a safe destination, the minister said.

He added the new policies which were being introduced were part of a larger plan to revive the tourism industry.

I agree. A college for all communities with provision of free or subsidized education and a hospital with free treatment is much better than a mosque.

The Hindu parties in the Babri dispute should also have insisted on a college and a hospital instead of calling for a temple.

I don't understand your point. You don't care for a temple but your desire is to see many suspected-to-be-temple sites to return to their "original status" ??

Tell me one thing, would you have rather liked the Babri Masjid site to have been converted to a free hospital for all ??

BTW you are someone who always said build a hospital in place of a temple.

Also, you tagged me in a thread related to news about a place connected with the Hindu religion and then you displayed lack of empathy about a human's death due to very avoidable hunger. Is lack of empathy what Hinduism teaches then ?

It is inevitable. I can't expect to earn as much as a Mukesh Ambani because he has taken risks and grown his business and employs thousands of people. If you say he inherited the wealth it is true but so did his brother. He also took risks, failed in business and is now facing bankruptcy.

My maid, who may not even have passed class 5th can't be expected to earn as much as me. Again the difference is in skill level and education and what I can command in the market for what I do. Tomorrow if my skills become obsolete I will be out of the job. I will have to reskill myself to earn money and I am prepared for that.

Yeah the name may be silly. But one thing is that their students don't take taxpayers money to study.

BTW I am not saying that government should not open universities, just that the students should use the time and resources to study and not do politics
