Azerbaijan shows interest in buying JF-17s

as for helicopters, Azerbaijan bought more than 100 transport and attack helicopters

The UAV numbers are way off as well, Azerbaijan has one of the largest UAV fleets in the region :D

and no, MIG-29 will be upgraded and equipped with cruise missiles and etc. making it a nice solution until Turkish TFX arrives.
so Azerbeijan is looking for long range surface to surface and air to surface missiles. I think MTCR will restrict that but we can help our brothers covertly.

Our targetarket should be Nigeria they are the most likely buyers and they have an economy and neex to back a big purchase
Nigeria is no longer a "target" as we have already entered that market. We need to keep looking for more customers. The more the merrier! :)

Its just Interest .. it seems more like a Formality to say that we are interested in JF-17 ... and there is no reason to be sad here cause this is Professional Military hardware which takes years and years to convince other countries to buy it .. because of the money / time and resources involved ..

The news is about "Pakistan offered" and "Azerbaijan showed" interest. That means that there is still nothing concrete between the two countries and both stand at point zero.
Pakistan's continued push for the platform is failing again and again. Why so? I think because of
1-Pakistan's limited diplomatic reach. If Pakistan is to make a sell to Azaris, Turkey's blessings and motivation is necessary. Likewise Pakistan has lost the warm in relationships with most of the Muslim block in the region. Most are more diplomatically aligned with India than Pakistan. Furthermore, Pakistan's relationships with big regional powers like US, France, Germany and Russia etc are still far cold for these countries to aid Pakistan's sale pitch.
2-Pakistan targeting the wrong customers. Pushing the aircraft to countries which can afford expensive toys (GCC) at one end while pushing the aircraft to those countries which can happily make do with J-7s from China at much cheaper rates. Pakistan has been just like the dude who tries to sell his HTC to someone who can afford an I-Phone 7 at one end and making the same sales pitch to someone who can't even afford anything beyond low priced Q-Mobile. And in the recent run of global slum the countries in between have shrunk. Argentina went ahead with more Mirages, Srilanka just gave up under Indian pressure. Malaysia said plain no and Indonesia settled for second hand F-16s.
3-Principal hasn't been helpful. China itself producers aircraft across the price spectrum now. So low priced products are available from China to customers evaluating JF-17. So unless China shuts down the J-7s lines and force low end customers to buy JFT, the chances of a deal are slim. And Chinese haven't shown any intent to scale back low priced products.
4-Bad Economy. World still continues to battle the effects of the great recession. Austerities and fiscal discipline runs in Europe, Oil economies are facing the heat from the slump in oil prices. Military budgets are being cut, atmosphere is bad for business.

Their airforce is tinier than our Naval Aviation Arm. Lol


If the case was as dangerous as needing to count the number of planes. They also basically have the entire Turkish Armed Forces with unconditional support.

Azerbaijan is one issue that the Turkish foreign policy won't tolerate at all costs despite the fact of we are run by islamists, vice versa.

Don't think they need jf 17 as Turkish air force is there for them and later tfx if turkey liked the craft a few additions of good defensive planes would be nice however slim chance

I would disagree with the first point especially about the loss of warmth between pakistan and the muslim nations. You may have read the recent news about Turkey buying Super Mashak and PAkistan's senior military leadership visiting Turkey on a regular basis, so contacts between the two nations are getting stronger by the day.
I would agree that there is a lot more that goes on behind a fighter jet sale as it is a strategic allignment for the next 3 decades. We reckon it is the Chinese power house and its economic might which is indirectly driving the sale but still it is the clout of the big three which scuppers most sales pitches and I alsso think we have been a bit over enthusiastic and perhaps premature in developing a sales market.
If you look at the Gripen and the number of countries which have assessed the plane against the number of countries which ended up buying the platofrm, you will realize that barring the top 3 most countries take a decade before they make a sale. PAF on the other hand has managed 2 sales in the last 8-9 years which is not bad going at all.
So all in all we need to be patient. As the platform matures we will have more interest and more sales. However the world economic state is currently not in good shape and arms market in general is suffering.

No doubt that JF-17 has been a great success and is one of the most potent low cost platform available in the market. However that does not mean that we start linking it with one or another airforce every now and then.

First it was Myanmar then Sri Lanka then Indonesia (I guess) then there were rumors that Egypt is interested not to leave Nigeria and now Azerbaijan.

Comon lets leave the plane alone for the moment let the orders come and then if the customer want release the news. Till then its better that we remain silent and avoid creating threads like this.
