Neither did Azerbaijan conquer Yerevan. IMO both will retain their Soviet era borders.

situation was so bad that even armenia proper would have been over run if there was no russia

If Azerbaijan takes the capital then Russia enters the war and Azerbaijan would have lost the entire Karabakh. The current deal is a good deal for Azerbaijan.

If Azerbaijan takes the Armenia proper US would bomb the s out of Azerbaijani army until they leave the same way they did to Iraqis who conquered Kuwait.

Turkey today is much smaller than Turkey 102 years ago. After WW1 Turkey which was a defeated country lost land to Allies.
