SRINAGAR: Six soldiers were killed while several others are missing after two avalanches in Gurez Sector of Kashmir, an army official said on Thursday.

An avalanche hit an army camp in Gurez sector of Bandipora district near the Line of Control last evening in which several soldiers were trapped, the army official said.

He said rescue operations were launched and seven soldiers including a Junior Commissioned Officer were saved.

"Bodies of three soldiers were retrieved his morning," he said.

The official said another avalanche hit a patrol party which was on its way to a post in Gurez sector last evening.

"Rescue teams were able to retrieve three bodies from the spot of the incident while some soldiers are still missing," the official said.

He said the exact number of missing soldiers was not yet known as heavy snowfall was hampering ongoing operations.
On Wednesday, an officer was killed in an avalanche at Sonamarg in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district while four members of a family died in another avalanche in Gurez sector.

Authorities have issued a high danger avalanche warning in hilly parts of snow-bound Kashmir valley in view of fresh snowfall which has been going on intermittently for past three days.

All India | NDTV NEWS DESK | Updated: January 26, 2017 15:33 IST

Bodies of 10 soldiers have been found after two avalanches hit Jammu and Kashmir's Gurez since yesterday. Four more soldiers are missing. The army said rescue operations were launched immediately after the avalanches despite bad weather and heavy snowfall.

Seven soldiers were found alive during searches yesterday. Three bodies were found this morning.

After another avalanche at the same area yesterday, an army patrol moving towards the camp went missing.

Three soldiers including a major were killed and four others were injured yesterday when an avalanche hit a camp in Sonamarg in Ganderbal district.

The avalanche left Major Amit Sagar and four others buried under snow. The injured are being treated.

In another incident, four of a family died after their house was buried under the snow in Bandipora district.

There have been multiple avalanches in Jammu and Kashmir over the past two days.

Alhamdulillah. Hopefully, the number increases.

Uncalled for. Even if they are our enemies we should respect them for serving their country. Reminds me of Mian Mohammad Bakhsh's Saif ul Mulook (dushman mare te khushi na kariye sajnaa vi mar jaanaa).

Pakistan should offer help and services to rescue those who are still trapped.

Hope fully those missing find their way home soon after getting rescued ....
Nature is cruel some times .....

Rest in peace Soldiers

"Four bodies of soldiers were recovered from the avalanche site by rescue teams in Gurez today. The death toll of army personnel has now risen to 14," a police official said.

Two avalanches hit army personnel in Gurez sector on Wednesday evening trapping several soldiers under the debris. While seven personnel were rescued alive by the teams, bodies of 10 soldiers were recovered yesterday. Meanwhile, a 60-year-old man died after he came under an avalanche in Uri sector of Baramulla district.

Fateh Mohammad Mughal ventured out of his home last evening when he came under an avalanche. Local residents and police pulled Mughal out of the avalanche debris and removed him to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

More than 20 persons, including 15 army personnel, have died in avalanches since Wednesday caused by fresh snowfall across Kashmir over the past four days. Authorities have issued a high danger avalanche warning in hilly parts of snow-bound Kashmir Valley in view of fresh snowfall.
