Avalanche traps 10 Indian army soldiers in Siachen

Ten Army personnel from 19 Madras regiment have been trapped in an avalanche on the northern part of Siachen glacier in Ladakh.

Army officials said that rescue efforts are in progress.

Ten army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer, were on Wednesday trapped under a mass of snow after an avalanche hit a military post at Siachen Glacier in Jammu and Kashmir.

The avalanche hit a high altitude post situated at 19,000 feet in Northern Glacier sector in Ladakh region in wee hours of Wednesday morning, Defence public relations officer at Udhampur-based Northern Command Col S D Goswami said.

Pakistan is ready to declare both Siachin and Kargil as military free zone....... but it's India who is as usual not acting wisely.......

Reminds me about an incident wherein we lost precious lives back there. However, it's a tragic incident indeed and we know the call of nature cannot be skipped/ignored.

Not on serious note but seriously: hopefully the thread may not turn it towards ISI or Pak Military or any sort of conspiracy at all because if the incident of Pakistan has nothing to do with India then this time it has nothing to do with Pakistan.

IMHO, both the countries need to settle the dispute with the help of Int'l Law. Both lost many valued lives and still happening as nature is a factor that cannot be dealt by any man's chemistry.

Massive avalanche hits Siachen army post, 10 soldiers missing

New Delhi: Ten Indian Army soldiers are reported missing after a massive avalanche hit the high-altitude post manned by them in the Siachen glacier.
The trapped army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), are of the 19th battalion of Bihar regiment.

The avalanche hit a high altitude post situated at 19000 feet in Northern Glacier sector in Ladakh region in wee hours of Wednesday morning, Defence PRO at Udhampur-based Northern Command Col S D Goswami said.

The brave soldiers were caught unawares and are reportedly trapped in a mass of snow.

The Indian Army and Air Force have launched rescue operations in the area. Indian troops hold the Siachen Glacier, the world's highest battlefield.



In January four soldiers were killed by a similar avalanche in the region.

The men were there for our safety....Send out a prayer.

India initiated the Siachen conflict in 1984 by invading Pakistani controlled territory in Siachen. Of course our amazing ally the US turned a blind eye to this. However when we responded to it with Kargil we were ordered to withdraw by our great ally. Pakistani leaderships poor choice of allies continues to haunt us deeply.

India stole a large chunk of siachen from us. I am waiting for some form of payback. If Pakistan had even armed half of our Lucknowi brothers and given them space in the army to fight our sworn enemy India we could have made a difference. Sadly we have no sound policy using muslims occupied by India against India as they have used Bengalis, our own people against us. Pakistani history is filled with missed opportunities and deep failures on the foreign policy front, and warfare front
