All China had to do to take Indian occupied Ladakh was to show up with spiked clubs, the Indians chose to jump in freezing cold rivers to escape.

Now, any Indian citizen can buy land in Jammu & Kashmir

NEW DELHI: In a significant move, the Centre has paved the way for people from outside Jammu and Kashmir to buy land in the Union territory (UT) by amending several laws.

The MHA notified what it calls UT of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Adaptation of Central Laws) Third Order, 2020. The Centre has repealed or substituted 26 state laws.

In a gazette notification, the Centre has omitted the phrase "permanent resident of the state" from Section 17 of the Jammu and Kashmir Development Act that deals with disposal of the land in the union territory.

Before repeal of Article 370 and Article 35-A in August last year, non-residents could not buy any immovable property in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the fresh changes have paved the way for non-residents to buy land in the union territory.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha told reporters that the amendments did not allow transfer of agricultural land to non-agriculturists.

However, there are several exemptions in the Act which enable transfer of agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes, including setting up of educational or health care facilities.

The MHA notification will come into force with immediate effect.

Reacting to the MHA notification, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said that J&K is now up for sale.

"Unacceptable amendments to the land ownership laws of J&K. Even the tokenism of domicile has been done away with when purchasing non-agricultural land & transfer of agricultural land has been made easier. J&K is now up for sale & the poorer small land holding owners will suffer," Omar Abdullah said in a tweet.

I agree with most of your points about the legendary incompetence of Pakistani bureaucracy as it is a fact. If you read history, it was the sheer incompetence of this bureaucratic machine that let Kashmir slip away.

You are overestimating india. india has huge problems of its own. It is now effectively engaged in two theaters of war. This will take its toll. There exists a possibility that india will be militarily worn out by China coupled with internal instability and massive economic downturns. This could, however, dilute indias stranglehold on Kashmir which is more anti indian than before.

This make sense. Look at Mehbooba and Abdullah, trying to restore art 370. Which is discriminatory law preventing Indians from buying land in IoK.

So according to them Kashmiris joined secular democratic India over Pakistan but at the same time want to restrict Indians from owning land in IoK? In what world does this make any sense?

Indian extremist RSS government on the other hand is hypocrite as they don't have problem not buying land in Himachal or Nagaland. But thats to be expected from bigoted Indians.

India continues to trample on the rights of Kashmiris living in its reign of terror. The latest strike came in the form of legal changes that allow any Indian citizen to buy land in the disputed region. The change proves beyond any doubt that India has no intention of following the will of the Kashmiri people, even on the off chance that a plebiscite is ever held. At least earlier, New Delhi tried to use some sort of a facade to hide its contempt for international law. The last change to the property law only allowed “permanent residents” to buy property in the region, with the conditions for “permanent residents” essentially meaning that most of the eligible people were soldiers and government employees, and their children. Previously, non-Kashmiris were not allowed to buy property at all as that would throw off the region’s demographic makeup and invalidate or skew a future plebiscite.

The timing of the change was also not accidental. The announcement came as Kashmiris marked the Black Day that is October 27 — the anniversary of the date in 1947 when Indian forces first occupied the Muslim-majority state. While the condemnation from Pakistani political leaders was expected, even Kashmiri politicians loyal to India, have called the move “unacceptable”. Omar Abdullah, a former chief minister of the occupied state, noted that the Bharatiya Janata Party would force suffering upon “small landholding owners” through this move to put the region “up for sale.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has never had the interests of Kashmiris in mind while crafting policies for the occupied region. His priorities have always been, in no particular order, his corporate cronies, elections, and Hindutva. This is one of the rare moves that will help with all three. That is because fat cats can buy up the land for their own purposes while further depriving Kashmiri Muslims. The move will also revitalise the BJP’s base during the legislative assembly elections in Bihar. As for Hindutva, the fact that the legal change causes Muslims to suffer is enough to count as a win in that column.

Yeah I've heard Hindu birth rates are below replacement while Muslims are significantly above in most states. Indian Muslims are poorer and more ghettoised so they'll have high births for some time. Bangladesh border regions will be majority Muslim.
