Assocham wants India to bypass Pakistan for gas pipeline with Iran

Those are not your sea limits. Not your territory. You have no right to impede movement in those waters.

True, but irrelevant as shown by China. In times of conflict such assets can and will be targeted.

US, China and Russia have so flagrantly abused long held UN treaties and conventions with impunity that they hold no weight. UNCLOS is a joke and Indian submission to it in the Italian Marines case is a serious blow to sovereignty which would have long term implications.

Highly unlikely Pakistan is not China they neither have the political will or the international clout to attack a pipeline that is in international water 1000 meters under water. Also lets not forget the attack would not just irk India rather Iran and Oman also since they are stake holders. Not forget we hold most of Pakistan's water, so two can play the games.

Hope for the best and prepare for the worst. This is the maxim strategic planners should live by.

There is no room for probability when we are talking about critical infrastructure investments

Only two questions need to be asked

1. Does Pakistan have the capablity? Yes
2. Does Pakistan have the motivation? Again Yes

Rest is just conjecture.

That would only be true in case of a war. Very unlikely in other conditions. In a war, a lot of things are going to be targeted anyways. The alternative of a pipeline through Pakistan might just find itself turned off or blown up by some "militants" every time India doesn't jump.....

Wars and Skirmishes and again it is like handing over a loaded gun with which to shoot at us.

This is probably too pessimistic but we should hold on any investments to the west which can be threatened and if you cut through Diplo-Speak then this is what we have been doing since Vajpayee era with continuity. Afganishtan assets are being targeted every now and then as we speak, so it is a good idea to hold any investments which Pakistan can target.

Chabahar and likes are good as it is primarily an Iranian asset with Indian investment.

Not easy to just blow up deep sea pipelines. Would be the same as attacking an India warship. Would get that kind of response. You forget that Iran is co-owner of the pipeline. Essentially an act of war against them too. By that account they could target ships carrying crude to India.

People come with weird ideas....Why this Indian dude tell Iranian , Indian will built the gasline over 100 miles above Pakistan air space and drop in iranian territory. Neither India, nor Iran can afford the maintenance of under sea pipeline . Plus its very dangerous for sea life.

fiscal study already done for this undersea pipeline ,as cost is around 3-4 billion dollars , will take 2-3 year to complete,so
money is not a problem.

Ships are not the same as static assets passing near Pakistani shore, however I do the concede to your other points and hope that you are right. Logically speaking it would be declaration of war, but our neighbors are expert at blurring the line b/w state sponsored act of war and rogue act of terrorism.

Pakistan due to its petty compulsions loses big on building any dependency on India, big on economy and all its strategic position shit goes down the drain wrt India,if they had allowed motor vehicle agreement of SAARC , Pipeline to India or even MFN status their would have been a lot for Indian govt to think before any talks ,now Pakistan is just an irritant we need to deal/bypass while defending ourselves.

This will never happen. If they want to start a project like this, it will take them 50 years, and it will be unfinished.

Just move it through frigging Pakistan, and Pakistan really needs to tell Saudi & US to fck off.

I'm getting tired of all these talks of oil pipeline projects. I've been hearing it all my life. Iran, pakistan, and India should get their fcking act together and finish a damn project, instead of having meetings and shaking hands and taking photos.

It would be better for India to have no pipeline at all than having one through Pakistan. Pakistan has way too many state sponsored non-state actors.

:what:

No can do ?

besides , playing that card is costly . we'll sue for compensation regarding Iranian side of IP pipeline which was completed .

are you economically capable of providing such a huge sum ?

i donno whats up with pakistanis , they always need to bring up bad sides of Iranians when there is really no need to do so .

just live your lives . you're being insignificant
You can sue. But likewise we can raise many legal issues, and pretty much turn the table. Thats what happens in any legal case. We can raise many breach of conyeact by Iran's bed mate India.
You guys got "Allah," on your flag , but make mockery of Holy prophet (PBUH) by making movies and are more friends with non muslim countries than any muslim country.
Name me one muslim country Iran is friends with?

So you mean that there ships and helicopters will be like coming and going to/from our territory Without asking us. ?
and we will watch there ships/helicopters crossing our Sea borders ?
It sounds like my neighbor come to my house daily and use my Washroom And that also even without asking me..
@Akheilos , @Zarvan , @Imran Khan ,,, Sir i need your help. educate me Can they (India) lay pipeline in our Sea limits and regularly conduct maintenance operations in our territory without our (Pakistan) permission ??
sir jee in ko bolo aik machli to paker ke dikhaay pakistani waters main se :enjoy:these kids can wrrite nuke destroy pakistan here daily but in real life borders are borders :-) if its this easy why we arrest daily dozens of indians from out waters ? until our EEZ they have no right to do any activity without pakistani permission .

I fully support India building $100 billion plus gas pipeline from Iran that avoids Pakistan's continental shelf in the Arabian Sea. Good way to bankrupt a country but pride has its price too.
