Assassination Attempt on Imran Khan: One Killed, Multiple Injuried Including Imran Khan - 11/22

Martial law is not an option. It usually happens when there is a strong relationship and love b/w the army and people - looking at the current situation it is almost next to impossible.

It is in Bajwa and his successor’s interest to maintain the status quo. What is the status quo, one may ask.

A sizeable pie of the budget, the need for more land, Director level positions at LSE and Private Enterprises, provide bases to foreign countries from time to time, gaming of political landscape, rigging elections, meeting ambassadors, doubling as foreign minister and election chief.

My point is, more than Bajwa himself, it would be the prospective future Chiefs who are driving this agenda.

Only hope is mid level officers, whose conscience is intact to reverse this rot. But maybe I am being too hopeful.

It was quoted that Bajwa stated he would like to see the relationship between the US and Pakistan to be like that of the US and South Korea, but part of South Korea’s global success is its economic stability. While a stable democracy and an end to military influence in governance isn’t a pre-requisite for economic growth, it is part of what investors nowadays seek to assure them the rule of law including contract law will be followed when they put their money into a country.

If Pakistan economy addresses its economic inefficiencies and opens up to new investors on a fair basis, the economy will grow (probably at double digit numbers for some years, possibly more then a decade) and the benefits will go to the already rich disproportionately, as would be naturally expected. Salaries can be increased for the armed forces and greater perks/incentives for recruiting top talent will be more affordable for the nation to bear.

The current situation will drive away top talent from the military and into emigrating abroad.

Better investment into water management can grow arable land by a scientifically studied potential of more than 50% (from the Pakistan flood control system presentation). With a larger budget, Pakistani forces can independently patrol the western border and carry out any necessary cross border actions, without the political fallout of basing foreign troops. With IK’s steady diplomacy over 5 years, we would only need to maintain our current troop presence and then building trade corridors would stabilize the relationship.

Elections should be such that there is enough stability that elections shouldn’t matter significantly to the average person’s life, and the politicians job is just to manage what the people want (social issues and deciding between different social programs) but have a consensus on national development.

For the first time in over 40 years the Afghanistan is no longer a proxy battlefield on the nation’s doorstep. We can’t forget the good will IK has with the Afghans in power in Kabul. That will be crucial for keeping the western border peaceful, so trade can better live through that border, and not miscreants.

The Indians for all their blustery rhetoric won’t attack AJK or GB or the rest of Pakistan unless they sense an opening. Internal fissures need to be addressed and a roadmap for true normal democratic governance needs to be established, because the way IK left office has undermined Pakistani democracy in the eyes of many if not most Pakistanis.

If elections are to be held in Oct. 2023, for the sake off an agreement with the PDM, then at least appoint a new COAS at the end of this month that IK trusts to allow free and fair elections and that election date will be adhered to, come what may.

Let the nation focus on rebuilding the damage done by the floods, not spend the next few months with an ultimately pointless Islamabad sit in. The next 11 months can be better spent coming to a consensus on how best for the nation to address national interests when facing the world and how best to do it; PR and diplomatic speak. All parties will have to learn how to balance relations with other nations while adhering to national interests, in a consistent manner across the political spectrum.

With the Indians building up, the army budget will remain high, which is why we need FDI to balance the budget and get the nation out of this mess so the true existential threat to Pakistan, India, doesn’t get any ideas.

After this assassination attempt, The nation needs the next government to be an IK led PTI government, where it can govern for a full 5 years, and then be re-elected or thrown out on the merits of its performance. A opportunity the voters would have gotten had the IK government been allowed to govern until Oct 2023.

A new PTI government in 2023 would be a moment of catharsis, and what IMHO, the nation needs. It will also be the best time for all the other parties to shed their “personality politicians” and run on real platforms with realistic economic and social plans, so people have a real choice in 2028. This way PTI can no longer run on challenging corrupt opponents, and can be judged on their own handling of the economy, which in some areas left much to be desired, and should be the focus of their governance, not rallies.

The status quo is not in any Pakistani’s long term interest. A stagnant Pakistan and a growing India is a recipe for a disaster sooner rather then later.

You are mistaken. They might be dogs, but they're OUR dogs.

Long term for Pakistan the myth of the saviour army being smashed is incredible. Its the greatest thing Imran Khan will likely ever achieve politically.

Now that all of us as a collective recognise the damage thier "extra curricular" activities do - hopefully we can start to fix the long term problem. I for one will never see any version of martial law as an improvement on corrupt politicians.

As far as it comes to border clashes - we back our boys 100%. That's thier role, that's what we pay them to do.
Of course, we're just watching the ruckus across the fence but mostly chilling here in our tall grass.

It wasn't Army's job to protect Imran Khan, since he is making own decisions albeit threats that he is aware of yet his security wasn't fool proof, in fact it lapsed which brought a man with a gun close to him. And if anyone thinks that Military is behind this, then Military wouldn't want to make a martyr out of Imran Khan by killing him and neither would ever want to get blamed for carrying out an attempt on his life in public. This attempted murder is a backfire of emotional sentiments that Imran Khan is injecting into the Pakistani society through the British principle of creating a division like a wedge, closely based on divide and rule, but not exactly or entirely. Again, start connecting the dots since 2018, then April 2022 till now. The anger and frustration that Imran Khan has poured out vehemently has consequences, but not from Political parties neither Military as they don't perceive him as a threat of any sort. There is no reason to brace yourself for shocking news anymore as the lid of conspiracy theories has opened up. Go to media and get burnt out, then come back and start posting more and more hatred just like IK utters in his emotional sermons. You and like-minded individuals may think that Pakistan is going towards a big revolution where Military and Political parties will get a complete new overhaul. Both these entities are being cautious while Imran Khan may seem rampant but hopefully he keeps dodges the bullets that are aimed at him. A dead IK will be considered a martyr while a wounded IK will generate respect and sympathy. Both do not align with agendas of IK's enemies.

A 70 year old shot in leg with multiple gun wounds at close range may face loss of blood, but there are chances he will survive, even if the bone gets crushed, or the flesh or muscle completely ruptures. It has more chances to disable the movement of a person than kill him. The shooter almost fired in auto mode, that should have lifted the muzzle up, easier aiming for top body parts at around 100-150 m range, but the bullet struck leg/foot. If you see the video, you can see IK's head and chest were inviting targets, not leg.

On the contrary, all it takes is one sniper from around 1-1.5 km with the correct caliber and metrics to take on a stationary target (moving in rare cases, depends upon direction of travel). Army has many of those in formations. This even wasn't a repeat of LAK or BB assassination or assassination attempt. At tops, it may further strengthen the security cordon and make IK's long marches more cautious, security centric, time-organized and technology dependent in future.

Anyways, enjoy the media analysis, the trend of blames in news and by political parties, as well as the statements from experts. Its an open season for more conspiracies to brew.
Bhai jaan, jaan ki amaan paon, how do you know this is a case of hate crime? What hate has he poured? Those who hate him show up on TV everyday, but you gave them a clean chit anyway - I don’t understand how cursing NS/AZ and Neutrals cause a person to pickup a gun on his own and decide to assassinate them.
What divisions has IK caused? Is he playing Sindh card like PPP? pashtoon nationalism card like ANP? Sectarianism and fatwa card like JUIf or Punjabi card like PMLN? IK has instilled his own political rhetoric just like other parties have done against him (corruption, yahoodi agent etc.) No matter what an opponent say, there is no justification for this attack. If that is your thinking, then it basically supports the terrorist narrative of TTP and AQ.

While we may not know all the details yet, but in your expert opinion how come the attacker’s confessional statement was so quickly collected and released on media as well? The world has truly become a very truthful and straightforward place suddenly- Arshad Sharif killed, and Kenyan police readily accepts responsibility right away like good boys. Now this attacker again, within minutes case solved!
I wont say military is behind it, but these events are not exactly how they seem.

Yeah essay chorh de

Mulk pe reham Karo aur election kara lon, khuda ka waasta hai

It's bigger than politcs now and it's not because I am a PTI supporter, it's because I am Pakistani and even if I hated him , I'd say the same thing

Let the election go through for the sake of the country, anyone with even a bit of patriotism would say the same thing

Even if they despise IK

If they are ghaddar then time for you to change your dp..
Bajwa and co used Imran Khan to facilitate taliban and now the same Talibanis are after their lives. Peshawar is going out of hands and very soon this will reach Punjab. Bajwa made a wrong calculation. For having vested interest in Afghanistan, these Generals uprooted the peace in Pakistan.
Nothing of that sort will happen.

PTV and Punjab police helped PMLN govt to release the arrested assassin's second video .... wat da fvckk is going on ... IG Punjab and Pervaiz Elahi out of control .. police leadership is beyond control....

Never thought I would see a day where Fauji's will be running from the awam who once cherish them more than their own, never I thought I would see a day when I had to hear sitting COAS will be given title like Kutta, and for what? just to keep the power ? Today I realized that when old people used to say that the Greed of Money, fame, Power and Women can turn even a decent man into animal, they weren't wrong.

PE is a PTI ally not a member and historically - Sheikh Rashid and him are the most pro establishment figures of Pak politcs

In becharay sipahion ka kia qusoor. They are just following orders.

I think there needs to be a division between the Army, a fighting institution, and the military establishment, the political player.

Police say 11 shells recovered, out of which 9 are of the pistol, 2 of another weapon.

Perhaps a weapon of the security team? Should be easy to know whether the security team fired any shots or not.

Secondly, if the second shooter was far away, you won't find the shells near the container.

The DJ who is claiming he saw someone fire from a rooftop needs to be asked to pinpoint the exact location so that area can be combed as well.

More importantly though, why tf was the guy taken to Kunjah and who recorded the video and released it and why?

The kid who stopped the shooter says that all bullets were from the pistol. But then he says that only one bullet was fired while facing the container, others were after he tackled the guy.

So if that is true, then how come there are multiple injuries on the container, and possibly multiple bullets in the leg?

There has to be a second shooter in that case.

The DJ says he saw a guy with an AK type rifle on the 2nd floor of a plaza. But this could be a policeman on duty.

Forensics would have alot of answers to our questions.

Also, can forensics find out how many bullets were fired from a gun in the recent past? I doubt it. @RescueRanger.

And finally, the captured shooter says that he made up his mind in the morning to do this, but then in the next sentence he says Lahore say peecha kar raha hoon to kill IK. So which one is it?
Brother for that we need a ballistics lab similar to NABiS which Pakistan fideistic labs is not equipped for.

As for the pistol it was just a Norinco 213 or similar knockoff which can be converted to fire full auto with a little bit of work( won’t mention here how for obvious reasons). Of course this makes the pistol prone to stoppages as was evident in the video.

Secondly unless we are examine in forensic detail the scene, anything posted on the internet or elsewhere by “cyber sleuths and Twitter CSI et.al” is baloney.

The scene had heavy footfall and any meaningful forensic opportunities have been most likely lost.

In incidents like this the goal is to create a sterile area with layered cordons and removing any contamination to conduct what is called a line or fingertip search.

Dr.Locard’s principle of every contact leaves a trace applies so all people in the vicinity are treated as scenes and suspects, they are kept in a holding area and first account details are obtained.

CCTV trawls and request for mobile or video footage is completed to build parameters for expansion for narrowing scope of investigation.

All impact sites are methodically photographed as can be seen in the image below:

1667542699137.jpeg

All evidence is marked, photographed in situ and evidentially bagged and sent for lab testing.

A special computer software called Archimedes plots bullet trajectories and plots these on a google map style software.

These are then physically mapped using lasers or ribbons/threads to plot locations of potential suspects.

Any ammunition or spent casing recovered to matched to seized weapons to (TIE): Trace, Implicate or Eliminate.

As this is all evidence it is never revealed to the public until the end of the legal trial as it would be classed as a disclosure which can aid or undermine the defence legal position - potentially making it inadmissible in court.

As I said, none of this happened because Pakistani law enforcement is a basket case.
